4.6 million kilometers

This one is similar to Sachinides 240D

Stuttgart - A Greek taxi driver is to present the Mercedes-Benz museum in Germany with his trusty cab - a Mercedes diesel with 4,6-million kilometres on the clock.

The Mercedes 240D is to be handed to the company's museum in Stuttgart by Gregorios Sachinides on Friday.

Sachinides clocked up the kilometres driving round the streets of Thessaloniki, but also made hundreds of journeys to Belgrade to transport medical supplies during the war in the Balkans.

He was so pleased with his car that he wrote to DaimlerChrysler boss Juergen Hubbert to thank him personally for the outstanding service.

As a result officials from the Mercedes-Benz museum visited the taxi driver who promptly agreed to hand the car over to the museum.

DaimlerChrysler said it was the highest vehicle mileage known.

When Sachinides bought the 1976 model in 1981 it already had 500 000km on the clock. He changed the engine three times but the car kept going strong. -Sapa-dpa

There is no excuse for having to replace 3 engines in that few a miles. He shoulda kept the oil changed.

hehee. all the while i was reading this, I was saying.. oh my!.. 4.6Million kilometers on one engine!.. i would've thought the the odometer would have turned 46 times (i think the 115 only showed 99,999 on its odometer, i maybe wrong).. then i saw.. three engines.. "oh. ok.." so he has all the service record showing the mileage?.. so in essence its a 4.6Million kilometers on the body.. not really the engine...

Google says 4,600,000 kilometers converts to 2,858,307.48 miles

Almost 3 million miles... crazy.

Hey, don't count your chickens before they hatch. My 123 is only 2,597,000 miles away. At the rate I drive, I'll be there in just 173 more years!

Have you ever had a ride in a Greek taxi? I travelled in Greece extensively in the early 90s and especially in the north the roads are pretty bad. To have lasted for that many kms is nothing short of amazing. It took more than new engines to keep that car on the road. But really the survival of the auto is a testament to the design and strength of the frame and body. An engine or a control arm is nothing if the frame fails after 750,000 kms, like most cars would driven under the same conditions. Just look at the Fords and Chevys in the NYC taxi fleet.
