Shop Manual and Testing for Air Leaks
I'm now officially among the ranks of Benz owners - I just bought an 87 300SDL and I'm very excited. However, I have two issues that I haven't been able to figure out thus far:
1) I can't seem to find a repair manual for an 87 300SDL anywhere on the web. What am I missing here? I thought you could find ANYTHING on the internet... 2) I consistantly get air bubbles in the fuel line (the one where unburned fuel is leaving the engine). I can pump it out with my Mityvac, and she'll run fine for a couple of days, but before you know it - gurgle, gurgle, gurgle, and she poops out. Somehow, air is getting into that line, and I'm not sure of the best way to find the leak. *This car has had an extra tank and fuel line installed for running on vegetable oil, so I imagine the leak happened during the conversion. I'm just hoping there's a shop trick to find where it is before I start replacing hoses. Thanks, y'all! |

if your refering to the fuel return hose commonly called the "cigar" hose this hose can have little cracks in it and let air in. when you look at it flex the hose. if you see little cracks replace it.

Can you see the air coming out of the line with a clear hose? Or are you referring to seeing air in the small clear filter, which is an inlet filter? Are you familiar with the manual priming pump, which is located low on the injection pump, near the fuel inlet filter?

Pete, the 603 does not have a manual priming pump, unfortunately.

oh, duh, sorry, 617 on brain BTW, can you still buy a FSM for the 603? I know when I got my car in 96, I just went in and ordered my manuals. Not cheap, but still worth it for me
