oldnavy,

Any more specifics on what you're seeking? Have your heart set on a turbo model, or might a NA car be acceptable? Particularly hankering for a wagon? Condition?

JimmyL 09-23-2004 12:58 AM

I hear ones that smoke wildly are nice this time of year.... :(

djugurba 09-23-2004 02:49 AM

Two losers for sale...

there is a ratty-ass NA 300TD '79 for sale on craigslist in atlanta. I looked at it and would stay far far away... and another equally ratty NA 300TD '79 at an indy shop in atlanta... unless you're desperate I'd skip them both...

cheers,
k

oldnavy 09-23-2004 07:21 AM

Guys I don't want a "ratty" car. I perfer a 123 series, but that's not an absolute must. Same with the wagon, not a must. I want a car with a turbo, because I need something ready for the interstate highways. Love My 240D, but it's not a car to cruise the interstates west of the Mississippi or into the roads of the eastern mountians. In other words the wife and I are looking for something to travel the country with ease.

gutefahrt 09-23-2004 07:26 AM

That's Different

You never stated it would be for yourself! Since we're all friends here - How much are you willing to spend, or IOW What condition are you looking for how many miles can you live with etc etc etc.... In the last months there have been two really low mile and 1985 models here in Chicago land. Too mucho dinero for me though. There's a list member in Wisconsin selling a 1987, not bad looking by the pics. I have them on my desktop here if you want me to forward them too you, too big to post.

oldnavy 09-23-2004 07:39 AM

Send the pictures to ME I have broadband internet. I guess my cap would be about $5000 to $7000 on the right car, however for over $5000 the thing should be showroom fresh for an '83 to '89 model I would think.

leathermang 09-23-2004 07:46 AM

Did you get my email ?

oldnavy 09-23-2004 07:50 AM

Not yet. Probably being slowed down by the weight. :D

leathermang 09-23-2004 07:57 AM

I sent it yesterday.... (!)
That one owner 83 ..... Randy did not go back and actually see it close... he only looked through the fence due to them being closed .
They were asking 2400 and it is near Temple Texas...
email me if you might still be interested at that distance from you....

oldnavy 09-23-2004 08:03 AM

oldnavy 09-23-2004 08:06 AM

Getting ready to take 18 soon to be 19 year old cat to vet, he has been sick and the doc wants to see him. He's blind in one eye and doesn't see good out of the other and is having teeth/gum problems. We've had him since he was a kitten. Back in a couple of hours.

R Leo 09-23-2004 09:26 AM

If I were planning on doing extended highway cruising (w/o pets) I'd seriously contemplate finding a W126.

oldnavy 09-23-2004 10:42 AM

Well I have considered that also, and I am open to that. The main reason for trying to find a 123 is they are just so much simpler to work on and not so loaded up with electronic do-dads.

I am kind of looking at an '87 300D which is a 124, but yes I would not pass on a 300SDL 126 car if the price was reasonable. The problem with the 126 cars has been that most seem to be rather low mileage, garage queens that are quite expensive and are loaded with more options then anyone should have on a car.  :D

Also we normally don't travel with the cat. :D

oldnavy 09-23-2004 02:26 PM

This is really been nice and I want to thank all who contacted me privately and publicly. I like the sedan above and I am interested depending on pricing. Also I have been pointed to a real nice 2 owner 220k mile 85TD that is a real sharp garage queen and does not have a crack one in the dash and the wood is in excellent shape. This is a TX/FA car that is orignal paint and stills shines. This car is also rather high priced, but how knows they might come down some. I talked to the owner but he was on the road and said he would return my call this afternoon.

Now all I have to do is make some dessions as to how much $$$$ I am willing to pay for the car's i'm looking at. My guess the wagon may be a car worth worh an extra dollar priemum. My guess this car could bring over $3000.

Silicone in the OIL??

OLDNAVY,

Silicone in the oil resulting from the use of K & N air filter. I'm not sure what you meant? Should I revert back to the stock set-up?

oldnavy 09-27-2004 07:32 PM

That's the ware item called dirt, and yes I would switch back.

unkl300d 09-28-2004 12:16 AM

go to www.sfgate.com (san francisco "people's republic" chronicle) and look at the classifieds.

84 300td

I am selling my "ratty" 84 TD cheap... it's in the classifieds section. Needs a *little* mechanical TLC (throttle linkage adjustment, engine compartment detailing, hydraulic lines flared and connected) and a lot of rust repair TLC, but runs great and starts easily in cld weather. Hey, it's cheap!
