Diesel Purge in Spin-on Filter

This weekend I am changing the fuel filters on my 606 engine and was considering filling the spin on with pure DP or a mix. Any comments? Anybody do this? What was the result? I want to avoid cleaning ahead of the filters. Will the engine run on 100% DP in the filter? I figure a fuel filters' worth of fuel is good for 1-2 minutes. From what I have read on this forum, DP works pretty fast on the injectors.

That's how to do it. Diesel Purge is pretty diluted out of the can so you want to get it to the injectors without diluting it further. Fill the main filter with Diesel Purge then put the rest in a jar. Route the injection pump external fuel pump feed line and the return line to the jar so any Diesel Purge overflow goes back to the jar to be sucked by the injection pump. If it's been a while, pour a second bottle into the jar. I haven't done this in a while but I recall the engine will idle for something like 10 minutes before the jar runs dry. Keep the fuel from the old filter handy so you have a back-up in case you can't shut off the engine before the jar runs dry.

Any particular reason for the DP? Mine has an injector knock when cold but has been improving since switching to Global DieselOne fuel as opposed to Hess brand diesel previously.

Old Filter

What if I dump the fuel out of the old filter and then fill with DP and put it on again. Assuming not too old and plugged. ;) Then run through with DP then discard the old filter and put on a new one. Then I don't plug up the new one with the detritus loosened by the DP.

Good Idea, no!

1) Why not put Diesel Purge in the new filter?

2) Quite a bit of what is pumped through the injectors while idling goes back to the fuel tank. Next time around it will be diluted. You'll get much better cleaning by cycling Diesel Purge in bottle strength until it's "used up." I say "used up" because you'll stop the process and hook up the fuel tank while the IP and mail filter are full of Diesel Purge.

Thanks for the replies. I use DP because my foreign auto parts wholesaler (not a chain)carries it.

why not to do it

You might want to read the post's on why you should not use it in this manner. I sell a special injector cleaner I guarantee there is no risk to your IP like there is doing this with DP. It is called Dave’s snake oil revitalizes your rings and valves too. It is only $5.99 a jar you will find it next to slick 50 at your local automotive store. Or I take paypal and will ship it right out your engine will run smoother guaranteed or your money back. Discounts on case purchases Works even better in Californian cars and trucks. For a one time payment of $24,000 I will sell you the secret and the right to manufacture it.
