Well, I did a lot today...
The rotors came in today, so I installed them after work. I also installed a new voltage regulator. Everything seems to be fine now. The battery gets correct voltage and the ABS does not engage anymore like it used to. Took her out for a test ride, the brakes feel really good now. I did not have time to replace the thermostat (which I bought at the dealer where I got my alignment) Then I was thinking that I should have picked up the gasket for the thermostat housing too. I guess I will have to put that in with Phil, when I order some new wipers. Also, I would like to get a condenser before it gets too much hotter... Do I have to go with Bosch on the condenser or can a get a cheaper version?? Would a "universal condenser" work?? All this and I havent boughten one thing for the WVO conversion yet. I got a condensor for my car from Autozone. The price was right and it has a life time warranty. I would price one out from them first, sure it is probably cheaper then the German ones Fastlane sells. But it is not really an essential part, ie I am not going to be left on the side of the road if it breaks.

I did just recently find a new one on ebay for approximatly 110 dollars, which is pretty much untouchable by other sellers. May I ask how much you payed for yours from Autozone? Tomorrow I will call around... BAD NEWS - When I drained the coolant system yesterday to replace my thermostat, I just simply disconnected the lower radiator hose like I normally do... (I dont like to mess with those plastic plugs in the bottom of the radiator, but I probably should now...) Anyway, while under the car disconnecting that lower hose, I must have pushed up on the transmission cooler line (the rubber part) because today I discovered that the A/C compressor belt sliced part-way through that line. Immediatly I grabbed the duct tape, and slowed the stream to a small drip. I checked the tranny fluid level and added a quart that I happend to have in my trunk because it was low. I drove it back home, everything is normal, so I dont think I did any damage. Should I go ahead and order a new one from fastlane or is there any hope of finding something that could work locally?? Is it possible to have a shop crimp on a new hose like they did for the oil cooler lines?? Thanks... (BTW - I did replace my motor mounts... so that is not what caused the line to get sliced.) |

I'd just get a brand new hose off fast lane, they're only $16.99, plus they are spring wrapped, which makes them belt-cutting proof....it'd be nice if the oil cooler ones were spring wrapped too....

I think I paid $160-$180 but I don't remeber for sure.
I did trans lines on my car as well, they are cheap like $12 each. It isn't a bad idea to change them as preventive maintaince. I got them from Fastlane.

Sady, I have been out of town a bunch lately so I did not get back to you about the starter. Can you run over and pick it up sometime? I guess I missed the part about the bad condenser. Don't feel too bad, I think I may have a bad evaporator in my SDL! I was going to say the car was going to gain NO miles this week with the heat, but since daughter just broke her car...

Whoa, its been a while!
Its been quite some time since I have updated.
Since my last update the car has been serving me well everyday. I went through all the brakes, (front rotors, rear rotors and pads, as well as a replacement flex hose) And today I installed my new condenser! After new o-rings and some oil and freon the A/C is ice cold! Also, I have been buying up parts for my vegetable oil conversion. So far I have the 6port vavle, the pump, the tank, the lines (steel), and most of the fittings hoses and clamps. The only things i still need is a filter and insulation to hold the heat in the lines. Today I started the conversion buy plumbing in the 6-port valve (pollak) and starting to run the lines for the coolant. The tank also arrived today and it fits wonderfully, like it was supposed to go there! Tomorrow and SUnday I have to work all day, then Monday my sisters and I are going to Cedar Point up in Sandusky. By tuesday I should be back to working on the car again, most probably wiring the valve, and buying fittings for the tank and possibly running the lines. But I still need to order the filter... Everything is going great, and I will post pictures of my conversion! |
