Ah, that is something I forgot to mention. Thanks for bringing it up,

He gave me a couple of 1 micron bag filters... I had about 22 gallons of WVO in my garage that a friend who frys his turkeys gave me... I filtered some of it, and after warming my engine up, put some in a small container and ran on WVO for about 2 hours!! It was so awesome! No loss of power, no smoke, and a very noticably quieter idle. It was wonderful! I cant wait to finish the conversion!

Thanks for the filters...

I need to look for some potential sources for this stuff.... I'd like to be able to run on it, even if it was just a small tank under the hood for local driving, I could still save $$ I bet a 3-5 gallon tank could easily sit in there in that space on the drivers side.......

We'll have to get together soon and get it out of my trunk!
Can't wait to see the car in person all cleaned up.

During the last week, my starter began to die slowly, I think it developed a bad spot. (I would have to whack it with a hammer and steel rod to get it to crank. And it cranks very, very, very slowly. So I called Bob this morning, and my Dad drove me over (He did not want to take my car due to the starter) to Bobs this afternoon to pick up the starter. I got there, and he let me drive his pristine Grey SDL! It was a great ride, your can really feel that extra cylinder. We had a quick refreshment, Bob gave me a couple of 5 gallon drums for hauling WVO, and then we had to go.

Mad props to Bernard at European connection in Falmouth for giving me a Bosch rebuilt starter, and Bob for getting it for me!

I installed it this evening. It is amazing the difference!! I barly begin to bump the starter and its already running. And it spins sooo quickly!! Its amazing.

THANKS!

Commutator was probably in its way out in combo with some brushes needing replaced.

I like rebuilding my own starters since I have the means and the brushes cost all of next to nothing. But for the average joe, its nice to have that warrenty that comes with a reputeable rebuild shop...

Well, I had been having troubles with my "new" starter. The solenoid was clicking, but the engine would not turn. The battery was charged. I called Whunter and he told be to check the ground cables. Sure enough the grounding strap between the engine and chassis was loose! After tightening, she started right up!

I then finished up the 2-tank WVO conversion, and was actually able to drive it on WVO tonight! What an experience! WVO thread can be seen here

Example for new members.

Example for new members.
Meet a young man who fought through it all for his car.

This thread prints as 400+ pages, great reading material.

I have showed this thread to many people Andy, they are all stunned at your age, ability, persistence and perseverance.

The most common reaction is WOW, he must love that car.

Exclamation Keep up the good work.

I have bought my daughter a '84 300SD. I have done a lot of work on it to make the car safe and reliable. She likes the car, but doesnt yet have the sweat equity in it like you do. The car now runs well, but it had spent a few to many years up in New Jersey and has the pock marks to prove it. I hope she does enough of the paint and body work to develop 1/4 of sense of accomplishment that you have on your project. It has been converted to run WVO with a two tank system so I'll tell her to get on you WVO link to exchange notes.
