Looking at 83 300sd (info from ad follows)
I'm looking for a winter driver (maybe a total of 2,000 miles) and found this ad. Any of you fine enthusiasts care to offer any suggestions or comments? What's up with a dead cluster? The guy said he is a, gulp, used car salesman. I've searched the archives some but would like to hear from you. I'm all ears (and thumbs) Thanks all. Here's the ad:
VIN:WDBCB20A5DB049585 German Engineering at it’s finest. Turbo Charged Diesel Mercedes still running like new (but they all do) it’s the rust you have to watch for, and this one is very very clean. Gray paint, Tan leather interior. Not perfect, but it runs and drives very well. Has Newer VA safty Inspection good till May 2005? Of course Leather, power windows, seat, auto, ac, more. Selling cheap because of a few minor issues. Leather on center armrest is well worn, seats and everything else are good. Seems the entire instrument panel isn’t coming on (gauges, speedometer, turn signals, etc) I would guess it’s a fuse but I really have no idea. One rear window has issues, other than that this car has no known mechanical problems, and overall is in very good shape. It’s getting a full detail right now, and will be done this evening if anyone wants to see it as is. Otherwise I’m going to see if I can’t get the dash back online, take pics, and raise the price to something more reasonable. Last edited by connerm; 09-23-2004 at 03:03 PM. Reason: typo |

You don't list the mileage or the asking price. I would guess the fuse is blown too, but any idiot can change a fuse. Either he is lazy, stupid or something else is wrong.
Why would you want a DIESEL, REAR WHEEL DRIVE car for the winter?

more info (sorry)
200k $1800 obo. I plan to mostly drive the car during fall/winter to and from my deer hunting spot. I don't want to worry about hitting a deer on the road with my 95 e300d in the middle of the night. Also don't want to worry about messing up the trunk (if you know what I mean). Also, here in Virginia, although we do get some snow, it is usually after deer season ends. Also, I don't like to get the annual shafting by the DEQ when it comes time to smog my cars. Diesel's exempt here. Would also like something to carry my canoe.

Isn't the SD the big boat? I just don't see the car as something to drive in the woods, having hunted deer in the Valley several times over the year's in the '80's & '90's.

Still don't know why you would want a Benz for that. My AWD Soob wagon doubles as my winter car.
Anyway, the price doesn't sound too bad. That is actually kind of low mileage. Ask for service records!!!!! That is the biggest thing. If he can't produce any records, low ball him on that figure.
