Nearly lost my exhaust system!

About a year ago I bought a bunch of muffler donuts from bigbaboon (this was before I heard this guy was such a Scheißenverkäufer) and replaced the failing ones with new ones. No more than six months went by and I noticed that some of the new ones were cracking when I was checking something else, so as upset as I was that the new ones were failing I replaced those. This time only a few more months went by and I heard an odd sound coming from the rear of the car when going over some speed bumps in a parking structure. I thought at first it was the expansion joints in that parking structure but then as I exited the parking structure there was a dip I had to go through and I heard the same noise. I pulled over and looked in the back and noticed that my exhaust system was barely hanging by two donuts on one side. I know it can't be that those donuts only last for such a short amount of time. I thought they were good ones since they even had "Made in Germany" molded on them. I guess they're just bogus like all the rest of the Scheiß that Scheißenverkäufer sells.

Check to make sure the rubber pads the exhaust is supposed to fit up against are still there. If not, it vibrates a bunch and will fatigue the rubber amazingly fast. Also causes considerable "road noise" that is actually the exhaust thumping around. Usually one at each hanger and one at the front or rear of the back muffler.

The oe ones are very high quality I just replaced 2 this week because my muffler was hanging to low. I paid about $3 each at the dealer.

We have had the same problem with the rubber exhaust hangers whether they were OEM or aftermarket. There is one type made with a wire cable inside but I don't know where to get them.

SoCal air quality cuts down on the time your windshield wipers stay pliable. Probably the same holds true for the rubber hangers.

I still have the rubber pads where the exhaust system rests against the undercarriage. This time to make a long lasting repair, I took some old heavy gauge insulated copper electrical wire and tied up the exhaust system at the point where the rubber donuts used to be. Its quite a bit more rigid but it now has a little more exhaust noise that booms into the cabin but I rather have that than risk loosing the exhaust system.

Did the donuts actually break in half of just get shaken off?? I think they've got a couple of different sizes.

Everybody needs a scapegoat, but I bought new tie-rods from that guy and we ended up leaving positive feedback for each other.

Otherwise, those donuts should probably be on everybody's junkyard scrounge list.... I keep a few of them in my bolts bucket as some have shaken off over the years.

The donuts broke. They were are cracked and deteriorated, very poor quality IMO. I've never seen rubber deteriorate so fast.
I bought tie rod ends the first time I bought anything from that guy as well and I'm keeping an eye on them.

Ozone deteriorates rubber very quickly. We have high ozone here, too, and it eats wiper blades and rubber exhaust donuts pretty fast -- they get hard and crack.

Only cure is to replace them every other year (probably annually for the wiper blades).
