Removing the RPM Sensor on an 85 300TD

I have tracked some of my ongoing issue to the failure of this sensor. On my car I have located it to the side on the driverside transmission. Sensor is on the side of the transmission with a large plug. I unpluged it do at looked and the sensor and tested it according to the tech manual and found that the Ohm readings were to high (app 4) and the voltage when the egine was running was zero.

My question is has anybondy removed this sensor, worked on it, etc...

Any guidance would be helpful....
