question on crank - main bearing
Have any of ya'll ever seen a crank bearing with this kind of marking? I am in the process of replacing the rear main seal and came accross this bearing. My plans are now to replace the crank/rod brgs seeing how I am "there". Got bit by that may as well do it while I am in here bug again. Probably going with a new timing chain and guides while I am here too.
It almost looks like some "arcing" went through it. Oh yea - this engine is for the '79 300SD that is getting an engine because the connecting rod is through the side on the one that came out.

If the engine sat without running for a period, is it possible this could be electrolysis? Changing oil in a marine engine before putting to bed for the winter is to prevent old and acidic oil from doing similar!

glyco bearings?
That looks like a slight manufacturing flaw. The truth is that it won't hurt your engine. The further truth is that Glyco QC missed that one and they will replace it if you can get in touch with their rep.
