it's pointless anyway, there is no GOOD evidence that CO2 from cars creates global warming, in my opinion. I have however taken a lot of environmental engineering and air pollution control engineering courses and see that although I don't support a global warming claim, clean air is important for human health reasons. That said, the money spent forcing old cars to smog is not worth the gains in the end, this government intervention crap is complete BS.

Thumbs down Kalifornia Komments

We have a bunch of diesels because we want the durability and power, and 2-year SMOG checks for gas vehicles drive us nuts.

We’re responsible folks and keep all our vehicles tuned up and in good mechanical and cosmetic condition.

We are VERY disappointed with the Governor’s repeal of the 30-year rolling window. What happened basically, was the state's classic car hobbyists were just sacrificed to the environmentalists along with several other pieces of environmental legislation to boost the Governor’s environmental reputation. Republican Govenors shouldn't do that. We'll have to watch this guy closely.

We were active classic car hobbyists with numerous restored Mustangs and a Shelby GT-350. Years ago, we fought very hard for post 1965 exemption and the 30-year rolling window (patterned on other states classic car laws). We'll have to see if the car clubs and SEMA can restore the exemption.

This will not make Jay Leno happy (with his excellent collection of classic cars).

The reality of it all is that classic cars account for only a single digit percentage of the California auto population and most are in excellent mechanical condition and driven only a few hundred miles a year to shows and weekend cruises.

We also don’t agree with old auto scrappage/crushing programs as these autos are sources of parts to keep restored cars in good condition. Get them off the road if need be, but into recycling yards for parts, not crushers.

Finally don’t get us going on ever-increasing restrictions to public lands and wilderness access, Jeeping and off-roading --- which is another issue.

I remember seeing the news stories that newer Hondas had cleaner air coming out the tailpipes than going in the intake in urban Cal. areas. Shouldn't the Cal. govt. be paying those Honda owners for cleaning up the pollution? Hey, why not have the Cal. govt. buy up a ton of them Hondas and leave them running all the time.

...right before we kicked DAVIS to the curb...there were all kinds of horror stories in NorthernCalifornia farm areas, where Cal EPA (yes, part of the reason
our state is broke$,is we have duplicity for most Fed programs...) was going around to farms & SHUTTING DOWN older diesels that were being used vs ELECTRIC motors to pump irrigation wells, & even red tagging older tractors for "too much smoke"....some farmers a little left of center, that was the last straw...w/in weeks we had tossed DAVIS out of office & put the Governator in....i was a little surprised when i heard this story, but have not checked the
details yet.....(i drove over 300 miles round trip to see ARNOLD march up the
Capitol steps, right before the election...still have the 2dollar bumper sticker on the 300SDL from that day...."Hasta la vista: DAVIS".....hope it never wears
out....BUT, IF he jacks the citizens up...he too knows we will TOSS him...so far, i've been pretty pleased.....but,i have been watching him closely on some of the issues...glad to see him toss the latest scam at giving ILLEGAL
ALIENS DRIVER's Lic....he might have gone along, but they would not make them look DRASTICALLY different than the normal license...GOOD for him...that whole thing is a scam...it's got NOTHING to do w/driving...its purpose was just to be a stepping stone to a VOTER REGISTRATION....the liars have been exposed!

Isn't CA great you can smuggle illegals in all day long and no one cares, you can do drugs and most people are ok with that. But if dump some oil on the ground they will tar and feather you and throw you off a cliff.

Took my '82 300D turbo and 1955 Austin-Healey out of CA in '95. Maybe I was on the leading edge of something for once..... I'm not sure what my reason was at the time , but my taxes went down, my vehicle registration on the Healey dropped from $467/year down to $56/2 years and I was able to keep a few more of my business' profits.

Cheers,
Wes

I just renewed the tags on the 4.5, my exemption is still in effect. I was worried that I was going to be sent for testing...kinda hard to get to a CA smog shop when you're 2,000 miles away. So far so good, the 4.5 MGB and the latest addition - Elinore, remain unaffected.

Maybe after November I'll be able to tell the Elinore story.
