The engines in these cars (or any other for that matter) almost never fail because of too much oil contamination. You might make yourself feel better knowing that eveey micron you can get is not circulating in your oil, but in the long run, it won't make any difference. Changing the oil and (OEM) filter at recommended intervals is all you need to do. Spend your money on something that will make a difference. I couldn't have said it better. Toilet paper filters have been around for decades. The hot one in the 60s was called a Stilco Filter. I can't see going through all the changes to re engineer a design that has worked so well. I have logged hundreds of thousands of miles on diesel MBs using the stock filter and a good brand of oil. I don't even care what brand. I can't even see spending hard earned money on synthetic unless the car was being used in cold climate or sever operating conditions. The MB diesels have a very low bottom end failure rate if they are serviced religiously. I have 345k on my 83 300TD. Starts and runs great, doesn't smoke or use oil, and it has excellent oil pressure. What more could I ask from the factory designed system? Peter
