I'm pulling my gauges to repaint the pointers since the brush strokes from the last painting are annoying me. I can send either of you my speedo with odo at 268K which you can install for pictures, then send it back. Or send me your lower reading odo :D I put about 5K a year on the SDL so I'm not going to join any of your races.

Have we completely alienated rkinz from his thread yet?

I want it! :D Sixto ship it to me for free, I'll take the pics then knock the 2 off of the odo. Then you could sell your SDL for $10k on ebay as a 68k original mile car. :D

Since you guys are chatting about my car, not John's ;) , I figured I'd chime in.

With the exception of a slight clunk in the rear end, which I wil deal with soon, this car is now close to mechanically perfect.

The engine is purring, the tranny is fine, all front end issue were dealt with and the AC blows cold.

I recently removed all the seats, had the carpets cleaned and redyed all the seats with Leatherique. The interior looks
almost new. I may have to remove one of the seats and have a section of the leather replaced as the crack filler that leatherique provides, "cracked". I found a leather guy who works really cheap.

Anyway, in the coming months I will respray the door panels and replace the headliner.

After I do that, I plan to remove all the exterior trim, lights, etc... and have my cousin paint it. It still looks good from about 20' away.

John did a real good job of maintaining her, and I have only added to that, plus dealt with some cosmetic issues.

Here are a few recent pics.

Here's a few more. I've only put on 12K on her since I bought her, but she did spend 3 mos in the shop after my ordeal with the IP awhile back.

If anyone has a line a that wood piece for the consol, I'd appreciate the tip.

John, that's a picture of the drivers seat. Remember that big old ugly tear it had? All gone.

Thanks

Snap the odometer again at 333,333 miles. Or is it too late?

No, I still have the same mileage, haven't moved it all day.

Are you trying to tell me you have one and can't find it?

I found a guy that refinishes them for about 40.00. I threw mine away, thinking I had a replacement when I purchased the one from Benz-Vettes that turned out to be from a 85 SD.

Plantman I may have a spare one left over from my parts car, I will look for it. It is not perfect but is better then nothing.

Refinishing MB wood

Hi Plantman,

I have an 86 300SDL and 87 560SL, both with cracks in the shifter wood pieces. These cracks are just in the clearcoat and I need to have them refinished.

I see that you know of a guy who does these for $40. Have you seen his finished work and do these wood pieces look like new? Could you give me his contact info as I'd *love* to have both of my wood pieces refinished!

Thanks!
Neal

No, I am just putting myself in your vehicle and realizing that I don't have any wood for the last two months.

I too would be interested if this fellow would refinish dash pieces. My dash is all sunbleached and, most 20 year old replacements are not all that great either.
