1989 190D Glow Plug Relay?

THis morning my 190D Started fine when I moved it out to the street, tonight there was no glow plug light and she wouldn't start at all. Plenty of diesel smell from the exhaust. The Dome light doesn't dim at all in the glow plug preheat position on the ignition....

Is the black box with the removable cap behind the ABS unit (008 545 0132)the relay for the plugs? Looks like the wires trace back to it.

Is there a fuse for this that I should check first? Where? I don't see one when I remove the box cover, just 2 sets of plugs and a large wire to a post.

Help

Look in this box. There is a strip fuse (80 amp). Don't check it; replace it.

I have a box that looks similar to that on the drivers firewall, but there's no strip fuse or hold downs for a strip fuse. Did they change something in the '89 year?

The fuse is a rectangular piece of metal held down by two phillips head screws. Most people don't recognize it as a fuse until told. If you already knew this and the 89 is different, then disregard.

Thanks, I think they changed to the "Afterglow" feature in '89. It's hard to read my wiring diagram, but it looks like I'll have to get the relay itself as there's no fuse bar on this model.....Now to find someone cheaper than the $200 Benz wants....

Hit the Fastlane button at the top of the page, find the phone number and call Phil.
