Squealing Brakes

Do squealing brakes ever improve on their own or do they only get worse? FYI, my don't squeal right away but do so consistently once they heat up.

I know MB users are supposed to be able to put up with these miinor annoyances, but it's driving me insane! ( -:

Sometimes they just make noise, I recently did pads and rotors all the way around. I even used the oe paste on the back of the pads, but my rear brakes now squeal under light pressure. Next summer maybe I will replace the rear calipers and see if that gets rid of it, for now I just turn the radio up.

Instead of the OE paste, try using anti-seize on the pad backings. Works much better.

Interesting but now that you mention it the oe stuff is kind of like anti-seize. I'll try that the next time around.

Try this -- take a file and chamfer the vertical edges of each brake pad.

If rear brakes start to squeal, is that a sign they are wearing? Mine just started after a year of owning the car.

I put new rear breaks on my car (with anti seize on the back of the pads) and they squealed constantly. In fact, they squealed so much it became downright embarrasing. They didn't squeal as soon as I put them on but rather a few weeks later. I finally fixed it by putting some anti squeal paste on the back of the pads (again) and this time also on the retaining clip where it touches the pads/caliper and also on the caliper pins. My squealing is now long gone. Most people only put the stuff on the back of the pads and overlook the retaining clip and the pins. Try putting it on there also and it might solve your problem.
