K&N for the OM603

For those that are interested here's the info site

I didn't even know K&N made a filter for the OM603, i've tried searching for them before without luck. Guess this is a recent addition to their product line?

Bad idea

Do a search on the diesel forum for K&N.

I'd never put one of those on my car, oe filters flow enough air.

I'm not much of a fan for K&N HOWEVER, my next air filter will be an amsoil.

It is both pointless and not wise to install any air filter other than oe.

Unlike most American cars that have a restrictive air box out of the factory, Merc's don't. They have the proper size filter that will flow all of the air the engine will ever need. Now on a turbo engine unless the filter is blocked the turbo will suck in all the air it wants.

Try this time a 0-60 run with your current filter, then take the filter out and try again. I bet you will see no difference. (unless your current one is plugged)

Well, right now i have a FRAM from the PO (about 13,000 miles old). I was just thinking about getting a Amsoil one since its reuseable and "offers greater airflow and better filtering." As for 0-60 runs, about 11-12 range. Thinking that it needs a ALDA adjust as the boost line has already been cleaned.

Red face I would not mess with it.

:EDIT:
Sorry my mistake, my Normal 0-60 is 14-16, but I generally don't drive hard.
I enjoy the drive and ignore the horns and lights behind me.
The right lane is a good place to be, at least for me.

Spec 0-60 for 87 OM603 300D is 11-12. His is right on. As Hatterasguy stated, there is likely to be no improvement over this regardless of the filter.

One would think so (me), however, others believe that a diesel can be easily tuned (cousin). Thanks for changing his mindset. Maybe i'll head over to Caliber Motors and get a new fuel and air filter afterschool or something (down the street ).

PS: Whunter, neither do i, my car hardly ever goes over 2k rpm under normal acceleration, only times it goes over is lane change, or to maintain speed on the freeway (2500-3000 RPM ~ 65-80 mph). As for lights and horn, a S55 didn't like the way i merged onto the freeway today

Sounds like you're not keeping the tranny in "3" at speeds under 45mph around town. Doing so will keep the intake cleaner and allow for more immediate power on tap when you need it.

Not to be off topic but why do people insist on getting on the highway so slowly. When I want to get on the highway I put my foot down and usualy hit the top of the ramp at 60 so merging in is a snap. If I had an S55 I bet I could double that speed.

btw spooling up a diesel is not a bad thing, they like to run. The 603's seem very happy around 3krpm.
