Buddy of mine restored an MGA down to the individual nut and bolt. It was beautiful when he was done, an incredible job. Asked his wife to back it out of the garage one day and she tried to back it out with the driver side door open for some reason. You can figure out the rest...

Answer

for a customer.

He feels insurance is not needed for a (New York) 85 mile enclosed trailer trip to the upholstery shop...

I disagree.

It is a 1939 260D that is 90% restored.

Still shocked that there is no insurance on it now...

Besides the financial loss the attachment to the inanimate object was also a serious blow to him as well. Sad, Sad thing to happen.

A few years ago a purchaser picked up a restored antique car in town. Drove about 30 miles toward his home and left the road destroying the car. I have no ideal if he had insurance or not.

Because of my existing automobile policies, any car that I purchase automatically comes with a 30-day full-coverage policy, as long as I pay the bill before the 30 days are up.

Automatically by law now any new aquisition is automatically covered under your existing policy for seven days. That is the provincial standard for the insurance companies.

A few years ago I sold my very nice Travco 220 motorhome with 48k original miles to a guy from Atlanta. He rolled it on the way home. He didn't have insurance.

full coverage on a 9 year restoration project is kinda out of the 30 day grace...
gotta cover any new vehicle, old vehicle, vintage vehicle and pretty much any vehicle that means enough for you to own it.

Trailer and contents should be covered under his regular policy if he has full coverage on the tow vehicle.
