Fasten Seat Belt Light Comes on Intermittently

Sometimes when driving, the "fsten seat belt light" comes on for about a minute or so. This is regarding my '79 300SD. Am I getting a power surge or something? Is there some sort of sensor to be replaced? It doesn't come on all the time. Usually after about 5-10 minutes and may come on twice in a 20 minute span.
Thanks
David

Has anyone had anything similar to this happen to their car?
Thanks

I am currently having the same problem with my '83 300D. I even had a mechanic look at it and he tried several things, but I still have the problem. I am very interested in the responses this thread receives.

seat belt light

I've also had this problem, I noticed that if you unlatch the belt holder and then resnap it into place the light goes off?. that is a possible starting point.

Do you have something weighty in the passenger seat?

Intermittant problems are challenging. Start learning the wiring diagram and testing on the fly.

loose connection?

In my car the seatbelt light sometimes comes on also. I wiggle the female end on the bar that it slides along. I suspect the light grounds through that bar. There may be some corrosion on it over time causing an occassional poor connection.

I had the same problem. After much studying of wiring diagrams and testing and troubleshooting, it occurred to me that I do not need a light to tell me if my seat belt is fastened. So I removed the bulb, and I do not have that problem any more.
