These cars are pretty nice once you get the problems sorted out. I'm still sorting out a few big problems a month but not many new problems come up so I think I am ahead.

Next week: Guid rod mounts, diff mount, new wiper cages

After Christmass the rear window project. (that will be fun )

Then I have to look forward to fixing the trans leaks and lifters and timing the timing chain next year.

I am getting ahead!

We could start a secondary bet. Who will have to pay the most to get to 250K. Hattie, seems like you have a head start there as well

Yeah I'm doing a good job of that! I just got my first credit card a few months ago (September) with a nice low limit of $500. I have never charged anything on it that wasn't SDL related except for a pair of shoes and lunch once. I think I am on my second or third month of maxing it out. It is like free money as long as I pay the balance every month. I can't afford to do this much longer she better start acting better in the next few months.

But this is getting a little old and W210 E320/420/430's are getting pretty cheap... Something newer that breaks less and is in better shape would be nice. My friend has had very good luck with his E300D, he has had only simple bs problems, problems that are actually fun to fix.

Yeah, I have to do guide rod mounts on mine too. They are clunking loudly. I am just going to get the whole assembly with new subframe mounts and guide rod mounts out of a salvage yard. I know where there is a 126 that just had all that done.

There is a cold shift wire you can try

Bob,

A little off target from the mileage wars... I believe it was Sixto that found the wire that disables the cold temp shift softener. If I remember correctly it is around the thermostat (connector) and then goes to the front of the engine. I have a hill near me, and my car would flair 2-3 when cold every day. This fixed it for me.

Now back to the daily totals!

Hattie, update?

I just turned over 240K. It is creeping up, but slow. Been too busy to drive anywhere.

I may have to join this race to 250k - Whats the prize?

Currently just turned 203,000 but have added 16,500 in the last 7 months.
That's an average of 2360/month

Eliminating the two abnormal trips driving the car back from Texas (1675 miles) and my recent vactaion to/from Florida (3900 miles) I am still averaging about 1,560 miles a month.

It looks like Alan and 'Hattie' are safe as even worst case I'm still 19+ months away from 250k

I'm around 246k/247k; can't remember exactly. Man, I wish there was a prize since I drive about 450 miles a week. I need to change the oil soon so I should remember!

Thanks
David

I have been driving less this semester. Also I only seem to use my car a few days a week because of the never ending snow. I am down to about 250 miles a week. I was getting close to 500 some weeks last fall. But I just rolled over 245k today at 100mph, racing a Maxima. I think I am at 245,034 now.

I drive 76 miles each way to work or 760+ miles a week ~ 40,000 a year. I put over 40 K miles on my W108 250SE last year commuting. That prompted the move to diesel for the obvious reasons. My 300TD now has 160,500 miles so it should have plenty left in it. ETA to 250K is June 19, 2007...

My SDL has been sitting at about 308 for awhile now. First the tranny, then the lifters and now getting ready for paint. It should go in next week.

about to break 275K in the 300SD. How many of us in the mileage wars are college students? Mine is getting less driving as I spend all my time working on everyone else's cars
How'd that Maxima treat ya?

Maxima's are slow on the highway. I was going 75ish in the left lane and he was being a jerk and riding me. When the road opened up he decided to pass me in the right and I put my foot into it. We were even to about 105 at which time he pulled slowly in front of me. Not to bad considering he probably had 50hp-100hp on me. If I had a 420SEL or 560SEL I would have not even gotton out of third.

245,064 btw I went for a little ride and had to do a few things.

Isn't that the truth lol...
Every day driving to and fro Portland (Oregon) I get to ecounter a lot of these..."In-DUH-viduals". Tuesdays was a truck that turned on a yeild to oncoming in front of me then decided to stop half way though (had a trailer too) and I was not moving slowly. Good thing the pavement was dry...thats all I can say...
