Ohh yeah I am a big defensive driver now, New Haven and I-95 teaches this skill well! I usually camp in the right lane now and go about 60-70. But today I was in a rush and was in the left making some time(about 75 nothing crazy), and this Maxima came along and I was in the mood to mess with him a bit.

I know that area well. My folks have a summer cottage on the Thimble Islands off of Branford, Ct. I don't think I have ever gone through that section much above a crawl. You must have gone through after midnight!

No about 12pm, right by exit 41 south bound. A guy lost his head early that day on the south bound side and it closed the highway for 2 1/2 hours. Really horrible accident.

Hattie, if you had a 560SEL, the race would have been over almost before it started. From 75, my old SEL was a rocket. You'd have been deep in triple digits so fast he would not know what he had gotten into. Foot planted, 560 doesn't shift to 4th till over 120. Probably a good thing I drive the SDL now. The V8 was way too tempting.
Oh, and I'm at 225,585, after several hundred miles looking for a cheap 300E for the daughter this weekend. No luck, so the miles keep pounding on.

That's one of the things a gasser has that a diesel never seems to. Greater engine speed range for a greater power band. That is the true key factor in winning races.

However, third gear on a 420SEL (I know a 560SEL was referenced)is like waiting for a freight train to pickup. It kicks into 3rd at about 70 mph, up cruises up 2:1 to 120 mph on to a top speed just shy of 140 mph. For diesels to have that kind of thrust, they'd have to be producing at least 280 + lb/ft flat in 4th gear up to 120 mph. Just imagine how much a 560 would require.

Thats why I couldn't own a 560, I would have broken 130.

I think late 90's Maxima's have a top speed of just shy of 130, but getting from 100-130 takes a bit.

I love fast cars.....too much really.

But I really hate the big gas bills that tend to go with them.

Gas is cheap compared to a ticket for 135 in a 55 zone.

Yeah jail too.

Exactly how fast are those TDI's? They only have 90hp or so stock. Even if you double the power you are still only at 180, a quick little car yes but you can get 300hp now in a luxury Acura. Not to mention a chipped E300D is probably faster.

I think a Noble would be a cool "kit" car to race around in. Turbo charged Ford V6, 0-60 in 3.3 seconds! It can pull 1G on the skid pad as well.
