Question 2 sizes for heat shields???

I am pulling ALL injectors nest week for the rebuild shop. I know I will need new heat shields. Why are 2 differant sizes offered for the same engine?

There aren't...., really. They list 10mm, but the latest change is the 7mm. For the turbo especially, you want the smaller hole so LESS surface area of the nozzle is directly subjected to pre-chamber cumbustion/heat.

I think there's a glut of 10mm heat shields out there that no one wants to use anymore, so they still list trying to get rid of them.

They could probably be used in an old 240, but you don't want them in a 300DT.

Read the threads on the nozzles from India before you take your injectors to a shop. You are probably better off cleaning your old nozzles yourself. It is time consuming but easy to do.

Thumbs up Thank you

Thanx for the info. I changed #1 injector due to nailing. The "new" injector I got from FastLane nails even worse!!! Put my stethescope on #1 injector.... loud ticking... all other injectors are quiet. Before I get blind and rip out the pre chamber I am going to a local shop for pop test and spray test. I have 3 old injectors that I know need rebuilt. They can set #1 to MB specs, then I will install with new heat shield and with any luck #1 will be as silent as the other 4! I have searched the forum for other causes of nailing and it seems it is always the injector. With the stethascope you can hear slight valve rattle, but not without the scope. Above 1200 rpm it sounds great, pulls strong starts with only minimal shaking until warm... less than 1 minute.
