How 2 replace shifter light

I can't seem to find any referance to replacement of the light in my A/T shifter console. Any help would be great.... Thanx.

Remove the center console wood trim. Then on the drivers side of the shift unit you will see a wire going into the shift assembly. Pull out this light bulb holder and replace the bulb.

Removing the wood trim.
1. Remove the ashtray. open it and push down on the metal tab in the center rear of the ashtray.
2. remove the 2 screws you see in the ashtray opening.
3. Remove the metal bracket that the 2 screws were holding.
4. Disconnect the wire attached to the bracket.
5. Slide the wood trim towards the rear of the car about 3/4" while at the same time
6. pull up on the front of the wood trim to just barely clear the shifter, shift lever in "Drive".
7. IMPORTANT on the back of the wood trim is a 1 inch horizontal peg that holds the trim peice in the car. Don't break it, or you have to replace it and it is not available by itself.
8. Disconnect the wires from the switches and place the wood trim to the side.
9. replace the shifter bulb.
10. assemble in reverse order.

I just did that a couple weeks ago. Regarding the instructions above....I was able to do mine without disconnecting any wires - you should be able to lift the assembly up and move over enough to get the light holder assembly out. The assembly is on the drivers side and looks like a little block - if I remember correctly I just pried/pushed with a small screwdriver on the apparent point for that and the block pulls out towards the drivers seat. The bulb is a spring loaded push-n-twist type. It is an odd light - I had to order it through the dealership - make them look it up because mine assumed it was similar to the dash lights and it is not. I won't say stealership because they just gave it to me - I had to pick up after parts hours and he said the cost wasn't worth messing with a credit card. I think it listed for $2 something. I thought that was good of them. Now if they could just get in the seat angle adjuster knob I ordered 3 weeks ago - they say it must be coming from out of country because it is taking so long :(
I searched high and low on the internet for both the bulb and the knob, but could not find anyone that carried them.
It is nice to have the shift area illuminated. Good luck :)

Wondered why I could never see my gears..

if I need a light to tell me...maybe I shouldn't be behind the wheel ;)
