Wrong glow plugs in my SD?

When you look at fastlane for glowplugs for my '79 300SD, it lists two different one for two different VIN's. My VIN is the one that takes the more expensive plug (of course) and it is the Beru. The Bosh plugs are quite a bit cheaper, but they are for a different VIN. When I installed the Berus, there were Bosch plugs in there. What gives? 5 months after I replaced them with the berus, one is now out? Should I replace all with Bosh plugs now?
Thanks
David

Hmmm, My 83 300D has what I believe to be a '79 SD motor. Someday I'll lookup the engine # to ID it.... I replaced the glow plugs last fall with a set of Beru's listed for 240 and the 300D lineup. I never noticed an early pencil gp version...
It is my understanding that Beru's are the ones to go with....

They are both the pencil type plugs. Would a Beru go out already after several months? Should I buy a set of Boschs or just one?
Thanks
David

Wrong glow plugs in my SD?

if there is alot of carbon inside the glow plug chamber it can cause the plugs to overheat leading to premature failure. i would stay away from any plugs other than bosch, no offence meant for others, just my advice. at my shop we only use OE equivelent parts and have had very little problems.
what is your vin number? i can look up the mercedes part numbers and you can cross reference them to find which ones are correct. ray

Only Berus are available for my VIN, look at fastlane. I don't have my VIN with me, but fastlane has a different glow plug for different VINs. I wonder if it even matters? Did they change something half-way through the '79 SD?
Thanks
David
