Kitcar insurance? Anyone have any experience? Diesel Kitcar?
I see some really interesting and affordable kitcars but have never seen a word printed anywhere about the insurance for these cars. I don't see them driven often. Does anyone know anything about kitcar insurance?
I understand that a 6.2 or 6.5 diesel will bolt in any car that has a GM smallblock. A kitcar converted to diesel could be one of a kind. |

Look for the Olds350 webpage, they have a Pontiac Fiaro with the Olds 4.3 V6 Diesel.

a couple other thoughts
Twitch,
My Brother-in-Law built a Shelby Cobra kit car. He found companies that would insure kits, and talked with a few. They pretty much limited his engine size to a 351 Ford ( 5.8L) unless he wanted to pay big bucks for insurance. To start the registration process ( NC) he had to get an on-site inspection by a Dept of Trans person to show him receipts. Proof it wasn't the end result of a chop shop. When he registered the car, NC gave him a choice of picking the year of the chassis or engine. He goofed an chose the newer date. He had a number of polution inspection hassles due to running a carb based V8 in a late 80's chassis. If he chose the engine year - 71 in this case, life would have been much easier. Good luck. He had a lot of fun building it. Chuck |
