Tool rental program
I need to rebuild the front end on my CD but I don't have a spring compressor. I guess what I'll do is buy the compressor and do like Pep Boys, AutoZone and the rest do. You send me the full retail price (USPS money order), use the tool (typically 10 days), send it back and I send you your money back minus a rental fee.
How does that sound? I guess the rental fee would depend on the number of times the tool can be used. Is that fair? I know I'd gladly spend $30-50 to rent the compressor rather than buy it. Oh yeah, you break it, you buy it. Any ideas? Craig

Tool Rental
Performance Products has a limited tool rental program, not sure if they offer the spring compressor though. Try them @ 800-243-1220. It's worth a shot.

That's a fair offer - those who fully intend to use it and return it should have no problem putting a deposit up front

These guys made their own home brew compressor for their alfa. Looking at the merc compressor it doesn't look all that complicated. Maybe you could build one for your merc, then share the plans with the rest of us..... Indy

tool rental
I was at an AutoZone store recently, and they loan tools out. I think it's free as long as you're buying a product that requires the tool. For example, if you buy new shocks/springs from them, they'll loan you the spring compressor. I think you can also rent the tools for a nominal fee regardless of purchased items. Perhaps other auto stores do this as well?

Can we get the moderator to put a sticky thread at the top for people like RLeo that have special tools they will rent out?

R Leo- I'll rent the compressor from you. Just tell me how much and I'll send it, and tell me what the fee will be. Done deal.
AutoZone and the rest will rent tools for free, you don't have to buy anything. Basically you buy the tool, use it and return for a full refund. They don't have the correct spring compressor though. Craig
