Angry Some &$*@&! attacked my wagon

I was cruising along the 101 a couple of days ago (for the locals - and there seem to be a lot posting here - this was southbound between Fairview and Patterson) when I saw what I initially assumed to be leaf or a piece of garbage fluttering up in the wind from the side of the freeway...

Then I heard a loud POP! and it seemed like my windshield had exploded .

In another second I realized the thing I had seen out of the corner of my eye was in fact a rock someone had thrown from the side of the freeway. I pulled over and called the cops (when I got through to the 911 operator she said, "You're in the beige station wagon? Someone has already called it in, the CHP is on its way." Damn, people are quick here!)

My friend and I got out and tried to find the guy who did it - I was totally ready to give him the biggest beating of his life . All we found was a big pile of rocks ready for throwing, whoever had done it was long gone. The CHP guys were friendly and helpful, but of course there's no chance of catching the bastard unless maybe he strikes again .

$300 to replace the windshield... but hey, at least it isn't pitted and prone to glare like my old one . I guess considering this sort of thing can be fatal (if the rock had made it through the glass or by causing an accident on the freeway) 300 bucks lost isn't the worst that could have happened.

Sorry for the crappy pics, my good camera seems to have gone kaput...

Damn that sucks...........Me? I would have done far more than given them a serious beating. Had I caught them their days on this earth would have been over. Glad it never made it through the galss. And really sorry you didn't catch the @#$hole. Maybe there is hope, if they do it again there is always the chance they will get caught. We can only hope anyway.

What an awful thing to have happen.

If it makes you feel any better....
I was driving along in my recently purchased [at the time] '81 300td when CRACK-a car going the other way kicked up a small stone and cracked my glass. Couldn't believe it-first trip in the car, wide [extra wide] road, minding my own business, etc. S#<* happens as they say.

Looks like you could've been seriously injured and am glad you weren't

Don't buy glass from diamond as I've had problems on more than one occasion with them. Don't settle for aftermarket glass. I've had trouble with them too.

Cheers,

Bill

Cell phones have really helped in situations such as this. Just for grins, check out eh CA DMV dispatch online, LA area is full of accidents, hit and runs, debris on the road, etc.

Man, there's a lot going on. Almost one a minute!
Being a country boy I don't see how you city folk put up with all the knuckleheads on the road. I've estimated 6 out of every 10 drivers don't have a clue how to drive, especially when it comes to the word "merge" or "signal"

Cheers,

Bill

This is why we buy good glass for our cars.
I had a similar thing happen, rock flew out from the side of a freeway and hit the crome around the windshield in my mom's jeep. Didn't hurt the glass but it sure left a huge bang in the metal. I was in the seat it would have entered too...not good times.
1969 bug (pre wreck) going down the local highway (99w) and a van kicked up a rock, chipped my windshield, and my brand new pretty car had a huge crack in the glass in no time.
Sacraficial I guess...sad stuff...but its better than eyes full of glass, cut up body parts, and worse yet, loosing control of your car...

Mine leaked AND had a chip in it before it got busted... I was seriously considering replacing it two months ago but ended up spending the money on something else. Thankfully .

We too had a crazy car-shooter about six months ago. Took a while to catch him, thankfully nobody was injured. Some people really are freakin nuts...

Dude, sorry about the windshield....just yesterday some guy riding my tail on the freeway at 70mph passed me and upon getting in front of me kicked up a broken square point shovel....the remaining 12 inches of the handle hit my hood and kicked the shovel to the side putting a hellacioius dent in my chrome window surround and scatched the paint on my door frame.

That night, I was able to rub out my hood but is still has a little "ding"

Lucky it did not come through my windshield and well ....you know.

By the way I turned around at the next exit and now have the shovel ready for mounting in my garage...just for spite !!

Looks like we were both lucky.

My friend and I were both wishing we could get a hold of the rock that hit my car, but it was somewhere in the left lane with a bunch of others (whoever hit us had been trying for a while). Not that a rock is all that impressive - your shovel will make a cool trophy though!

Since it didn't cause me any major injury (very minor blood loss - %*&@ glass shards!) I'm glad the rock hit the glass and nothing else; I got to just replace something I was wanting to replace anyway and now there's no evidence left. Your situation is a bit more frustrating!

If that had happened to me and i caught the guy, the stones would have a new target...namely his/her head. Why are people so damn stupid? Aside from it being obviously wrong, if the thrower happened to kill someone their life would be done for as well. Stupid stupid people....

I'm sick in the head so what I would do is to take a couple of days off from work and just sit there waiting for them.....
