Question Plan on $3000 a year for up keep.

Need pictures and more data.
What is the asking price?
Will you get complete repair - service history?
What has been done to it?
What geographic location, Michigan, Arizona???
What does Carfax say about VIN??

Could be a OK deal if it doesn't need anything major. How hard have you looked? I remember seeing e300d's on ebay with less miles go for around the same price. But condition rather than miles is important to me.

Repairs could sneak up on you. I just did rotors/pads/calipers on my car and that cost over $1000. Then I did shocks/struts for $500. Then I did control arm bushings, ball joints, and replaced the rear suspension links and that was like $1500. Tires for $500. These expenses are not really repairs but more major maintance items that any car with higher miles would need.

With all of that said I think the 95 e300d is a great car. I consistently get 32mpg with a combination of highway and gridlock beltway traffic. On long highway trips I get 37mpg...plus the car has a huge full tank and you can go close to 700 mile between fill ups.

Today I did test drive a 99 e300d turbo. Nice car and much more power available...but the dealer wanted 25K. I think I'll just push this car until the 2005 E series diesel become affordable in a couple of years.

I just bought mine on ebay, last month,176K,I have allready 180k,no problems except the heat that was restricted...see my posts,I paid 7300$,is like new.
Gas prices go up,so are the prices for "newer" diesels...

I purchased a '95 E300D this May with 142000mi. My mercedes mechanic checked car over and said it was in terrific shape. Checked timing chain play and found it had stretched and he recomended replacement since would it break it'll destroy the motor. Mechanic indicated motor was extremely clean. He just rebuilt his wife's just like mine at 384000mi so I figure my E300d has a great deal of life left. I average 30mpg around town with over 600mi between fillups. Power is very good and engine winds up like a gasser with its 24 valves usually shifting from 2500-3100rpm with no strain.

Blower motor has started to sqweek and John, (mechanic) is checking on part prices and has indicated this is a job he almost hates. I'm gonna hate the cost to replace. This whole climate control system in these mercedes is very unfriendly and I dislike this part of my Mercedes the most. I can't believe they carried this pitiful climate control system over from my old 300d.

It is very quiet and comfortable on the road and the range is terrific. I'm amazed how quiet the sunroof is when open. Just sounds like a breeze. The motor is a two year orphan, '94 & '95 (non turbo) as John comments and is very strong.

Hope this helps...have fun searching!

Ditto on the climate control system, as much as I like my 87 300D it has the worst climate control system of any car I have ever owned.........

I wouldn't worry about the mileage at all if the car's overall condition is good. Just to give you a reference, I bought a '97 E300D last year with 230k miles for 10k. The car was in excellent condition. Sometimes I wish I hadn't sold it.

Besides the km, look at the chassis, paint, the interior of the cabin, alineation, shock absorbers. I bought my E300 turbo of 1993 with 250k and it in perfect condition, but a small crush it has in front, which costed my a new radiator.

(Normalmente, se um dono foi cuidadoso com o aspeito geral duma viatura, também foi com a mecánica da mesma).

Where are you located?

My wife's 95 E300 is going up for sale soon (finishing up some cosmetic details). Its well cared for, and I wish we could keep the car forever (3rd kid arrives in June and we need more seats).

I'm looking for as close to $4k as I can get. Its got 268k on it now.

Let me know if you're interested.
