Although I don't really suggest it, smoke all you want, diesel has to be atomized before it can be ignited.

Hell, so does gasoline. Flick a lit cigarette in a puddle of gasoline and you'll just put the cigarette out.

My tach reads 600rpm or a bit less when idling but the electronic idle control appears to be working.

Talking 92 2.5L Vibrations at idle

I have the same car and mine idles at 700 rpm both in gear and neutral. Everything else runs great, the AC too. So I am confused as to whether change the mounts or service the injectors. I am trying to avoid the dealership. I never saw anyone explaning how to test the injectors. Any help would be appreciated.

One of our members is offering to test the injectors for $3.00 each.

Personally, I think it's a bargain and can spot an injector that is not providing a proper pattern. In my case, one of them is opening way before the specified pop pressure.

Engine mounts fixed it

Well, I found a great honest mechanic that replaced the engine mounts on the 92 300D and the vibrations (at idle) are gone and it runs great.
