TheBOB says hello and I am no better at fixing BMWs

Hello everyone,

I am on the darkside now. I am a bimmer boy. 1987 325i. They are great little simple cars which ulike my old 84 300d can get out of its own way if it has too.

Well, I am here to say that this forum is missed by myself as you guys always helped me aviod my mistakes by sharing and caring. I messed up my bimmer real good over the weekend. Replacing the struts I muffed up the tie rod ends and ball joints. Okay, about 150 bucks worth of parts later. You could have heard me cursing all through the night. You guys may have told me to grease up the rubber boots or better yet no pickle forks.

I have just had a clear resolution that the biggest problem any of my cars have had was me as chief mechanic.

Oh well, this is still the best forum that I have run across and hope that all you are doing well. I may buy a MB but I do enjoy the get up and go of the BMW.

take care

bob c

I personally don't like BMW's because they can be a pain to work on, plus they can be much more costly. My brother's old 320i would never run right, no matter what was fixed on it, but when it would run right for short periods of time, it was a blast to drive...

Good to hear from you - The only people that don't make mistakes are the people that don't do anything.

BMW's are fine cars, and unlike MB's it's pretty easy to get one with a stick. Now if they will just import some of their diesels over here.....

My Grandfather used to say the same thing and how true.

Fix it 'till it's broke....thats me

Thanks for thinking of us!

Cheers,

Bill

Good to hear that you still have your sense of humor. That other thread you started is still probably the funniest one I've read on here - mainly because I could so clearly see myself through the whole thing...

Bob, I had a really nice 85 BMW 735i a few years ago. I quickly found that every part had about the same price; $500. It was much faster than my Mercedes, more comfortable, etc. It also used premium fuel and something broke about once every 2 months. I owned this car for 2 years and only drove it about 4-5 thousand miles.

On the other hand, I have had my 300D for 6 years. I have driven it about 120K, nothing major has happened.

Now if I could only get another 20 mph going up the entrance ramp, it'd be perfect!

Yeah, good to hear from you Bob. Seems we always remember what we screw up so much better than what we do right, but we all fix a lot more than most people that never try

Yes I have thought of it as an accomplishment to brake as many things as I do.

I feel like and am the anti midas ad compaign

The say "We do that"

I say "I brake that"

I broke a lot of stuff over the years and hopefully many more to come. The key is to have cars that have relatively cheap parts. My W124 parts were not cheap as the W123. My e30 bimmer has fairly cheap parts. There must have been millions of these cars made.

New bimmers are so nice. I would not mind owning one of them. my next car may be a c280 they look like a nice compromise of performance and MB sturdyness and they can be had for not too much money.

I may buy a 96 740i but this little screw up would have cost me alot more money to repair.

For what is it worth I broke the first side in about 3 hours of work and the other side in under 1 hour so there some progress.

thanks

i have found that when doing suspension work to always replace everthing with a boot (and requires a pickle fork) at the same time. then its all nice new boots and no ripped ones. i found this out the hard way. my sd is driving with one bad upper ball joint missing the boot and one lower missing the boot filled with oil to quiet it. when i get the time and $$$ this will change.

I guess that it is not so bad.

I felt like virgin in there playing with suspention parts. Never been touched. Now I can attack any suspention problem like Rick James.

All I have left to do is replace a clutch and I will have broken just about every part on a car that you can.

The sun did rise and set just like any other day so all is well with the world again. THe craving to take on a new car payment also went away. Thank goodness that I have a second car a real pos toyota pickup which needs more work than it it worth. but it starts and can get me to my office so I cant complain.

anyone have a used pickup. I am in a spending mood

that I am putting head gaskets on.
Just replaced all the steel brake lines.
Plan to replace the front rotors (hub and rotor assembly) soon.
Rusty but solid with 5 speed manual transmission.

Maybe "R Leo" can set you up with a W-116 Pickup? LOL
