Oil Change Time
No, this is not another oil thread. Ssshhhh, I won't mention any brands.
However, I changed my oil and filter the day I got my car. With the oil filter there were 2 washers included. When I changed mine there were no washers installed. So, I did not install mine. What is the purpose of the washers. I looked up the parts and I think I see how to install them. I have service records and all work was done at a very good local indy shop. The PO was a 10,000 mile oil guy, sorry but I am stuck with 3 months or 3k miles. I know it is probrably over-kill, but oil and filters are soooo much cheaper than any engine work. Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean that Murphy's Law won't bite me on the a**!

I use one as a crush washer for the oil drain plug. I think you get two because this filter has other applications (vehicles) that possibly require that washer.
Psst - what kinda oil did you use? shhhh

I'm assuming you're reffering to the "o" rings...
When you take the cover off the oil filter housing you noticed the long shaft attached to the cap? The bottom of the shaft is where the small one goes. The larger ring goes on the underside of the lid to the filter housing. Don't know what it will do if you don't install them. I would think the cap would leak without the larger ring installed but the smaller one??? I'm sure some of the more senior members will know... Cheers, Bill |

I got the same thing...
I'm getting AC Delco filters at Autozone. They also came with the 2 extra copper washers. The oil cap shaft has two o-rings so that ain't it. I just assumed they were for other applications and used one for the oil drain washer too. The Performance Products catalog shows two seals for the oil filter but I believe they are just the little o-rings as well.
