Towing with an 87 300D
I did a search and found lots of posts on towing with the older 300D's, but not the 124's. Has anyone installed a trailer hitch on their 124 and if so, how much have you towed with it?

I have a hitch on my '87 300TD. I have not hauled any great amount of weight since I have nothing heavy to haul. My two trailers are more like carts and have been used as such. 800 lbs. plus the trailer would be tops for me to-date. Not much help in answering your question yet someone will chime in that has done more than some utility towing.

What kind of trailer hitch do you have installed? J |
I think the hitch I picked up was a Draw-tite (Sic?) I have yet to install it. The plan is the same as yours, a small two or three rail trailer for hauling my bikes, max 1500lbs. I expect it will be after the first of the year before I actually test out the set up, with the 603 motor, I expect the 300Dt will be a great tow car. (Busted my leg on my KTM, so no need to trailer the bikes.)

With the max weight I towed it was as if it wasn't even there. Sounds as if you should have no problem. My hookup is a dealership (so I was told) square tube hookup that I simply bought (U-Haul) the proper height insert bar with a 2.25" ball. Braking was important to me so I tested that before really hitting the road with the small tractor on the trailer. Again, all seemed to work great.
Seems to me there was a thread not too many months ago regarding towing. I'll see if I can locate it. Also, something tells me there is something written in my manual. I'll check that also. Should have done that before typing this . . . |
Here's one I found so far . . . http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/98681-towing-spec-1983-300td-factory-towbar.html?highlight=towing
I checked my manual and was mistaken. The towing reference in it is towing the vehicle. |
