87 300D W124 Blower Fan failure...I dont have an aux circ pump...
I started troubleshooting my dead blower fan on my 87 300D. I checked the monovalve and then I went to check the Black aux circulating water pump, which is supposed to be on the pass side of the engine and which should follow the hoses that run of the radiator or water pump there..I traced everything out and and I found no Black aux circ water pump..
However I was blowing fuses like crazy for a while the last month on my blower fan, so I am guessing the blower fan is dead anyway, or else the blower regulator circuitry-- Is this a reasonable assumption? Has anyone has this occur? I am thinking several of u already have had this happen... |

Yes
If the fan motor brushes are still ok, the most likley problem is dry binding bushings.
Pull the sound plate. As I recall the mono blade must come out. Then pull the blower motor cover. You can lubricate it in place, it is a PIA, but possible. The attached pictures should help some. Replace fuses and test before you assemble housing. The pump you are looking for is the far right attached picture.

Thanks for your Help!!!!! I really looked for it,( the circ pump) I pulled the air filter housing and the battery, but I cant find it--and I'm not that bad--- I swear there is no aux pump on the passenger side of the car in the engine compartment----is there a possibility there is none? |

On my 87 300SDL the circ. pump is next to the monovelve. Just under the hoses connected to the monovelve.

The 123s had the aux pump passenger side front. The 124s, the aux pump is on the drivers side under the washer fluid bottle.

In the 124 diesel it's directly underneath the washer bottle; can't miss it.
If you're going to the trouble of pulling the trim and wiper motor, then removing the blower motor isn't any additional work. It's held in place by these odd metal straps - not sure what to call them - that just snap out without any tools. Takes about 1 additional minute. |
