Thought I’d started a thread on truck tires on a w123 for back road driving, but I can’t find it.
FYI I’ve had Yokohama – LT-195/75R14 Super Van 350’s on my 240d for eight months or so, and they are great for the less than ideal conditions I drive, live, love, have become accustomed too. They are wearing very well, and although not ideal for freeway driving; they suit my near jeep trail conditions to a tee.

Looks like a trail for my dirt bike rather than a road for my MB

God-awful gorgeous out there but I'd bet there's not much in the way of fishing so that leaves me out-well, ask me when the snow flies and I'll probably change my mind

Real nice little lake "Parker Canyon" 15mi. back up over those hills. Some fool put a Pike in it a few years ago and they've become big on the trout. The road make mine look like a freeway though - not for the Merc, but my VW Bus goes places that eat Jeeps alive http://www.managemoney.org/pics/az/scenics.htm

What nice hiking trails..

Here in the East I have hiked many of them, most notably the good old Appalachian [sp?] Trail that runs from Maine to Georgia. Hiked almost the whole trail, not in one shot of course

When I mentioned fishing I was mainly talking about tuna fishing in the ocean. I am a freshwater guy too but don't have time to do both so I concentrate on the big game.

Thanks for the pics --- looks darn good when it's 50 degrees and drizzle here for the past several days with snow in the not too distant future. The trees here are awsome right now-I'd bounce some pics to you but if you've read a few of my previous posts you'll know how computer savy I am Sheesh-and my son has a BA in computer science too. Maybe one day he can show the old man the ropes of a computer.

I'm sure that plenty of 115s and 123s in other parts of the world negotiate similar, if not worse roads.

FWIW- I used to have an S-10 Blazer (definitely a poseur, wannabe 4X4...but it was free!!) that we'd take out to Big Bend or down to the coast and use to bivouac/car camp with. Our last trip to Big Bend was right before I got into the Mercedes-Benz thing...now, I'm not so sure my wagon would make it to Ernst Tinaja on the old ore road without tagging that lower oil pan. I still want to do the backwoods car-camp thing but I need to fab a skid plate first.

What do you do about protecting that pan?

Forgot to mention in my last post---

Pike will take over the lake but not as bad as those dang snakeheads. Have you heard of the snakehead fish?

Somebody put them in the Potomac, a RIVER , so those fish will not be contained to just one lake but take over the whole river.

Too bad as it's one of the best spots around for the elusive small mouth bass. Somebody always wrecks it for all of us..

That's the very reason I've got the car - easily for the comfort, it's the best third world beater there is. How those German's got the Americans to consider them a status sybmol makes me wonder how they ever lost the war.Take the back seat out of a 115 - 108, with the underslung fuel tank and you've got room to make a camper, or use it as a covered PU.

I've lost one - drive very cautiously - they sell a skid plate, but I don't know how good it is - See ya later I'm going to the dentist in Mexico

Youse preaching to the choir dude. I have a 115....far, far better car than a 123. And, there's enough room in the trunk for Hoffa and all his family.
