Driver and passenger seats,can you switch them on the w123,any source of
a good used front seat(pass. or driver side)?

No, you cannot swap the entire seat side to side, you won't be able to use the back adjustment.

However, the seat springs, upper and lower, are interchangeable.

You can usually get a decent condition seat spring set off the passenger side at the junkyard, new ones are about $200 and well worth it.

Seat covers run about $500 each for the front seats in leather, $350-400 in MB TEX and are the way to go. You can often find them in junkyards, but the driver's side will be worn out as a general rule.

Ditto for pads -- best cheap source is a recently wrecked fairly low milage car, but new is much better, although you are going to probably exceed the resale value of the car if you do cover and pads on both front seats....

Hey I just did this. I got a very nice passenger side seat at the pull and save for thirteen bucks. It was dirty but otherwise in good shape. I used it to rebuild my drivers seat that was shot, broken springs seat pads worn out and leaving pad junk on the floor. Anyway the seat track assembelies and the seat back frame are the only parts that will not swap. the seat covers seat springs and pads and the seat bottom frame are all swappable. The pass seat back cover is swappable to the driver seat but you have to cut 2 holes in it for the arm rest mount. I cleaned every thing when I had it apart man thats nice also lubed the tracks with white grease moves much more easaly now. So for $13 and about 6 hours work I have a really nice drivers seat, what a difference. you could do it in a couple of hours but cleaning all the stuff took forever. My observation has been the pass seat is usually in much better shape than the drivers. not as much use. Good luck it's worth it.

is this also true for a 126?

Sorry Peter, but that's not true. The very first thing I did with my 240D was swap the seats. You have to swap the seat belt mounts, and the plastic trim pieces no longer fit, but the rest of the seat works fine.
