Don,

It's cold enough to start plugging in the heater when you have to crank it the next morning for more than five seconds.

How about that for the ultimate test on whether to plug it in or not. :D

Brian,
Did you get your block heater wired and working? :D

I plug in if I expect a frost or other weather that might make me wish I had heat sooner rather than later...My heater is on a timer so I can guess how much ac I want to waste vs. how much heat I want/need...

Steve,

I did get under there and wire it up with proper wire ties to the front of the vehicle. However, I have not plugged it in yet. I guess that I don't want to know if it does not work. :(

how do i tell if it works

thanks for the info guys.

i should have "searched" for the answer. everything is here, just search it out.

How to tell if it works: when you first turn the key on, the coolant temperature should be about 50*C.

tried plugging in

after 3 hours the temp needle hardly moved. the uninsulated hood was not warm and before i plugged in i made the discovery that someone again has had a better idea and grafted a new(really old grungy looking plug) onto the old wires and evidently the elec tape was not styrong enough to keep the wires from corroading.

note to self.....
add another project to the list.
new heater plug. will any three prong plug do?
move ahead of reset or replace parking brake cables which are rusted per the indy.
new lower pan gasket--although the parts near the pan won't rust anytime soon.
figure out why the radio quit when i cleaned the contacts on the fader.
hey...does the rear window defroster work?? okay gotta check that.
hood release cable. yeah gotta get that opening on a regular basis with the apparent high oil consumption just discovered.
get a copy of the only key to the car made.

hey the sunroof won't leak. its caulked!!

lets see....scrape and paint bathroom ceiling where the water collected 4 years ago.

finish cleaning the backyard where i cleaned the flower planter of over 100 iris bulbs(put on list for e/o year not ev 3 yrs.

get down on the workout bench and take out frustrations on it.
ride stationary bike and build up knee strenght again.

well time to surf somemore. wonder what is on the mercedes shop forum.

Hey buddy, looks like you have more than enough projects on your hand. While mine aren't physically demanding tasks as yours, I think I have just as many things that need to be done. And I better start before snow covers the whole place!! :(
