How fast do you drive your 240D.... ??

Well, I was driving about 65mph with my 240D and all of the sudden I was passed by another 240D motorist that must have been doing atleast 80. I never really bring my 240d over 65-70 mph. It gets the best mpg ratio that way.

How fast do you drive yours ?

You guys must have been going down a steep grade with a hurricane blowing from behind. ;)

I was on I-295 a few weeks ago, in my 300D. In front of me was a beater 77-79 240D that was hauling ass bigtime. He was doing 80-90mph, I was just keeping up with him in my 300D.

I've thought just for kicks to replace my 300D turbodiesel emblems with 240D diesel emblems. :D

OM617.952 injectors = sleeper diesel.

You could be so cruel to your fellow 300D drivers? :D

I just came off a 400 mile road trip and most of my cruising time was 70 to 75 mph and a couple of zips up 80 mph. On the interstate I passed more cars then cars that passed me. :D I would honk at the old farts in their Caddy or Lincoln when I passed them.

Today I was thinking of installing some type of sign to to say something like, 20+ years old ... where will your car be when it's that old?  :D

MBDFahrer 10-22-2004 08:56 PM

Why not... take one of those 190Ds from finland with an inline 6 diesel drop in it, and slap a 190D 2.2 badge on it? :p

The 240D drivers would love it though wouldn't they? ;)

This would be the easiest way to make a 240D faster. :D

Not good with engine codes, but this looks promising. Care to elaborate?

83-240D 10-22-2004 09:37 PM

not top speed just 0-60

someone somewhere complained about the leisure pace of a flat out accerating 240d. well i am here to dispel those rumors.

today i took three runs with a handheld digital stopwatch. you haveta realize that there is a big wind from the southwest in place.

first run heading west. 0-60 in .......21.8 seconds in .3/mile
2nd run heading north 23.6 same as above
3rd run heading north 25.8 also the same

now i don't know anyone who judges a 240 in 0-60 since the world we live in in ususlly 0-35 or less in traffic.

hey was that a 240td perchance??? one of 4400 made during the years 77-83?

Old300D 10-22-2004 09:39 PM

Could've been someone with a 240D like mine. ;)

mbzkid 10-22-2004 10:07 PM

A 240D will do 85-90, its not hard to believe.

ForcedInduction 10-22-2004 10:20 PM

Right now, my 240D would be lucky to reach 15mph with 4 people pushing.

Once that 617 is bought and installed, I'd guess 11-14 seconds 0-60. With a few mods, 3.96 rear-end and propane of course. :D

Right now, 55-65 seems to be the normal road speed for my area of denver (85-90 on I-70 ;) )

Manual says max for automatic 240D US model is 83 mph, it also give the RPM's for that speed. I guess it can vary some depending on weather, fuel, tire's, and numerous other things. Manual states 87 mph, if I remember correctly, for the 4 spd manual. ;)

That said, I beat most cars across the intersection at a four lane intersection. :D Not bad for a 21 year old car that just rolled over 150,000 miles. :D

Just joking...more fuel without more air (ie a turbo) only makes more smoke.
