Has anyone parked their diesels because of the high price of diesel fuel? I am about to park my 300D and drive my wife's Tahoe. I'm going to drive the Tahoe when I reach empty on my 300D. I had threatened to do so when the price reached $2.19 but then my 230CE ended up needing new CV axles so I kept driving the 300D even when diesel was up to $2.27 at the cheapest place. Well now it's jumped to $2.39 and that was in just in a week's time. I'm just not going to pay such prices and I'm glad I've got other choices. The Tahoe runs just fine on Reg UL at that's still below $2.00. The Tahoe gets no worse than 17 MPG's and according to my math it's cheaper to drive than the 300D at 25 MPG's. Hopefully the axles will be in this week as promised and I'll be back to driving the 230CE which gets over 25 MPG's. I feel sorry for those of you who don't have other vehicles to drive that run on UL but I commend those of you who are ingenious to convert your oil burners to WVO and not have to rely on the thieves who run the refineries. I'm going to do my research on this forum and elsewhere so I also can run on WVO.

300 mile weekly round trip to Detroit

30 mpg = 10 gal @ $2.25/gal = $22.50 for diesel (300SDL)
15 mpg = 20 gal @ $1.99/gal = $40.00 for regular (Suburban)
25 mpg = 12 gal @ $1.99/gal = $24.00 for regular (Grand Marquis or Sebring)
45 mpg = well, it's too cold for the BMW K1200LT motorcycle anyway.

Looks like it's still Diesel #2 for me.

I'll never understand my corner of the world. For the longest time the price of Diesel was between the prices of mid-grade and premium. Now it's a few cents more than regular.

DJ, I would think the 300D gets twice the mpg of the Tahoe. If so, the price of Diesel would have to be more than twice the price of regular before parking the 300D. Or did I forget to carry the 1?

Man are you terriable with math. Let's see, you want to park a car that gets 50% better fuel ecconomy then your Tahoe because you are having to pay 20% more for the fuel. $95.60 for MB vs $117.65 using $2.39 for diesel and $2.00 for gas, that roughly $265 more per year for fuel for the Tahoe over the MB.

But don't feel bad most people make the same mistake, including my buddy with 2 master's degree's. He thinks because my wife's VW Jetta TDI is diesel and I pay an average of 10% more for fuel that it cost more to drive it. What's funny he has been on trips with me and knows the car get's 50 mpg vs his car at 26 mpg. I use half the fuel and pay a 10% penality but he can't figure that out for some reason.

You will spend almost twice as much for fuel with the Tahoe, given that it uses so much more.

Besides, gasoline will be going up more soon, too.

It will be a cold day in the bad place before I swap my 30 mpg + deisels for a 14 mpg (or less) gasser! The TE only gets about 22 mpg, and requires premium to boot, which is more expensive than diesel.

The 300D gets 25MPG's at best becasue of the way I drive it. Usually I'm around 22-23 the Tahoe OTOH gets 17MPG's and as much as 20 on the hwy since I don't have to keep the pedal mashed to the floor. I did the math a few days ago and it came out less to drive the Tahoe.

Last week:

420miles / 18.5 gallons @ $2.32 a gallon = about $43! Fuel costs are getting expensive! And for some reason my mileage dropped off last week from 23.5 to 22.5?

I went to fill up today and to my horror Diesel was $2.29/gal. That is ridiculous in this neck of the woods. I guess we are all feeling it now. I get just over 20mpg around town in my SD. I park it every winter anyway as it is too nice to run in the salt. (that and it is like a wet noodle in the snow with no posi rear)
My Soob AWD wagon has been sitting all summer. Time to spend a few $$$ and some elbow grease to get her going again. Once tuned she should be good for 25 mpg.
I hope she treats me good as she too has some high miles. (241,000)

400miles/14mpg=28.57gallonsX$2.05/gallon=$58.56

Coworkers '01 Toyota Tundra TuRD w/4.7liter gasser:
400miles/15.5mpg=25.80gallonsX$2.05/gallon=$52.89

Advantage: Diesel! They were really screaming when diesel was 20cents cheaper than gas. Gotta do the WVO conversion and really rile them up. RT

With an unconverted vehicle I can still run 5 gallons of WVO with a top off of diesel. This amounts to 33% off the price of diesel per gallon: 10 gallons @ $2.20 divided by 15 gallons = $1.47 per gallon.

I guess g@$ hasn't jumped as much as diesel in much of the rest of the country. Here, as sixto mentioned, g@$ has jumped as much as diesel has, so mpg's are still the main determining factor.

I don't drive my truck nearly as much as I'd like to, but my 300D's been doing well...

Diesel by me is now $2.24, I will have to drive my Saturn as it gets about the same milage in city driving as my 300SD, but it uses 87 octane which is $1.98 at the cheaper stations here.

In the HIghway the Saturn gets 40mpg, the 300SD about 25mpg

What sucks is I need to fill up the 300SD so I don't get condensation in the tank. Same for my truck.

Diesel has to get way out of hand to park that

My wife always wants to drive the 300D because she likes the looks of it, so we take turns. Besides, I will park it as soon as winter arrives, so we'll drive it while we can. The Acura gets 30 mpg hwy, but it needs premium. Have to start driving that when the snow arrives. By then diesel will probably be back down to regular gas prices
