If you have a boost controller and it is properly adjusted, the stuck wastegate will not make a difference.
The controller is mounted upstream of the wastegate and lets pressure build up. (14psi in my case).
The pressure is then released at any psi above that to a wastegate that is stuck open anyway.
You dig?

On my setup the wastegate is internal, does that make a differnce vwbuge?? Where did you all tap into the vacuum lines to since the boost and vacuum, maybe that is my problem.

Hmmm

Hello Knight Rider521
I understand you have a 1985 300sd.
The boost gauge is reading a vacuum, but no boost.
Ok, one step at a time.
#1. A picture of where your gauge is connected would help.

#2. Will you DIY or pay somebody to swap the turbo out if it is defective?

For some reason my internet won't let me upload pictures. I don't know why, it is supposed to be broadband, but sometimes it is slower than dial up. The gauge is connected on the right side of the engine bay to a hose that is connected to a blue circular device, but I don't know what it is called. This unit is directly above my abs servo unit, closer to the firewall. And about have the turbo changed out, if it comes down to that, I will be paying somebody to do it. I was told it takes about 4 hours to remove and reinstall a turbo, which means it would take me about 6 hours. I tried to change out the turbo once, but didn't get very far. Couldn't get access to a lift. I hope that I don't have to change out the turbo though.

Your boost guage should be tapped into the intake manifold. At the rear there is a banjo bolt. Sounds fishy to me that you are reading vacuum. I know you are having trouble viewing pics but try this.

boost controller install...

R&R the turbo is no big deal. You do not need a lift.

It's called the vacuum amplifier and it provides vacuum to the transmission for controlling the shift quality. I am quite sure that you will not get any manifold pressure from connecting the gauge to this location.

You want to connect the gauge directly to the intake mainifold, if you can. However, I frequently connect the gauge to the line between the overboost protection valve on the firewall and the ALDA. This tells me exactly what the ALDA is getting. Now, if the ALDA is getting zero, then you need to move the gauge back up along the path to the intake manifold to determine what the problem is.

You definitely must reconnect the gauge to the proper point before making any further decisions.

Aah, there lies the problem...

You are connected to a vacuum control line, or your vacuum lines are routed wrong.
To read boost pressure, connect to the Line coming from the rear of intake manifold to the electric valve, mounted in front of and below brake master cylinder.
Attached is a picture of the valve.

E-mail me your pictures please.

Here is another thread you need to read.

I find myself saying thanks WHunter once again....I've wanted to hook up a boost guage myself, but didn't want to cut the brand new line I purchased for the Banjo Bolt.

Now I know where to put it....once I remember where I put that dang guage!!

Thanks again!

Here is one for you.
In the 1970's Ann Arbor, University of Michigan campus.
I was delivering a customer car.
I was told to look for a woman dressed in 1960's hippie fashion.
Found her easy, she asked me to wait as her FUZZBAND was dropping off the check book.
"Reflex", I asked if she meant her husband.
Naaa, he's da FUZZBAND baby.
Almost had a stroke when a siren went off behind me.
She was a Hippie and he was a Police officer. LOL

Yipes ! !

Good thing you was on your best behavior with that hippie....

You know, back in the early 70's, Bob Seger and the Bob Seger System played a gig at my highschool (Clarenceville in Livonia)....the auditorium seats 1000, but they only filled about half of it....(from what I hear....I was just a punk at the time!!)

Did hear that those 500 and the band floated out of the place when it was over...I think it took a week to clear out the blue smoke!!

The more things change.....Can you imagine if he played there today? Wow.

Once again, thanks......

Unhappy

Thanks, everybody for your help. I will reconnect the vacuum line when I get my car back. It is in the shop now because I sprung a major oil leak. ( You could look under the car and see the oil dripping on the ground at a constant rate) Hopefully it is not anything to serious.

If your slow broadband connection is DSL make sure all lines have the "noise filter" on them. Sounds simple? I had a terribly slow 768/768 dsl line that gave me download speeds of around 40. Turned out the problem was that i didn't put a filter on my satelite dish. Never thought about it when i did my self install.
my .02
hope this helps.
