Update on poor MPGs + Good dealer

I posted a while back about the poor MPGs on my 99 E300 turbodiesel...here's an update and (for once) positive news about a dealer:

While it ran smooth at lower elevations, it was sucking up more fuel than it should (23 mpg combined, generally 27-30 pure highway cross-country).

And, coming over Vail Pass in Colorado, the car was smoking like crazy, and from 7000' elevation up, sounding a bit like a garbage truck (rumbling, rattling, etc.) at lower RPMs.

Well, the dealership in Denver, Murray Motors, has an experienced diesel mechanic, and he took a look at it and thought he knew what the issue was without even opening up the hood. I didn't have time to stay for them to fix it, went out to NY (where another dealer tried to charge me $150 to tell me they couldn't find anything wrong with it), and ended up back in Denver this week.

I took it back to Murray Motors, and they turned it around in just two and a half days, did all the work under warranty, and were great about keeping me informed.

Turns out there were leaking/dripping injectors, the timing chain was slightly stretched, and the injector pump was way off. The mechanic ended up replacing six injectors, and also told me that he adjusted the timing to 13.5°, which is where he likes to set it for folks that drive between low and high altitudes (they back it off another degree for people that stay up in the mountains, he said).

Anyway, I just got it back and can't report whether the mileage is better, but it's definitely got more power, and I wanted to say that I recommend the dealership and am pleased that the Starmark warranty actually does work.
