Euro 300SD

While you're waiting, call your insurance company & see if they will insure it -- State Farm refused to cover my 240 - after 20 yrs with this agency - & I went to GEICO. Bumpers are prob different, and at a diff height, tho the owner may have fixed that by jacking up the springs - typically with a thicker buffer on top.
It's also possible that the man bought a US spec car in the first place, to avoid hassles bringing it back --- one can do that with the overseas delivery plan ...

Lets not confuse a European version and a European delivery. Any Mercedes that you buy new, you can take delivery in Europe. I think they still do this today. Now this would be a US spec car that will only be in Europe for a short while before MB ships it to the states. A Euro spec car is a different animal. It is a gray market car that was brought over. The diesel engine was never in the S class body in Europe until recently. Their is no Euro W126 diesel. The best way to tell a Euro car is the climate control the Euro's don't have the auto system they have dials. Bumpers can be changed around. Also the later W126's would have different wipers on the lights. Or you could just give run the vin through your local MB dealer or insurance company.

After the differences were outlined on page one of this thread, I have no doubt this is a US-spec European delivery car

Webwench, this sounds like my car.....1984 Anthracite Gray 300SD except I have the leather, not the MB Tex.

There was a nice one on Ebay today too:

Lots and Lots of pictures on this one....

I don't trust this dealer because he has a 300D that's been repainted and he isn't talking about it...but this is a good looking car for reference...

I hope he decides to sell to you....I think you would be happy with the car!

Hey, I can't give away my source

He's in the outer suburbs of Atlanta, about a 40-minute drive from me. Got an email from my dad yesterday that they'll continue to 'work on him' in my absence (my dad and stepmom are good friends with him and his wife), so I'm hopeful.

That could be a 5 mile trip there... one of the reasons why I cringe when I go back there....

Euro spec MB's were available with the automatic climate controls at least the W123's. I have an owners manual for my Euro 230CE and it shows the climate control as available. The was no 300SD available in Germany. I have a brochure from 1984 with the entire model line up and the were no turbo diesels available in any model.

I know it can be discouraging, however, be patient, more of these will turn up! Especially in Georgia!

Man WW hate to hear this. I began reading the thread and thought to myself man he's going to get a nice car and then you lowered the boom. Don't worry it wasn't meant to be, you'll get it right sometime soon.
