Overheating 84-300D

I have a 1984 300D that is overheating. A week ago I checked the coolant and it was bone dry. Filled it up and it does not appear to have lost much more coolant, but it still gets hot if I sit at a light (up from around 100 to close to 120). Also, I only get really hot air from the heating system and think this might be related. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Can you verify that your Aux-fan (front of radiator) is/is not working.
It should kick on between 105-115 C.
