Thumbs up Which diesel would you like to own?

This monster would be just right.
I could build my house in the bed, and drive over obstacles.
With a WVO conversion, I could afford to start it once a week.

I could hang a couple of 300SD cradles, one off each bumper.

You wouldn't have to deal with people screwing around in front of you. Even the die hard left lane campers would get out of your way post haste.....

Personally I am trying to figure out how to fit a W126 in my stable, in addition to the W123.

Or... 95 E300D Or...... 300/350 S (W140) Hmmm, a Golf TDI would be nice!

What is the most you have ever moved with a Diesel (or two) my record is two motors moving about 400 or 500k pounds. (Pushing a loaded fully fueled DC10-30 with a T-100 tractor.)

I'd love a big diesel school bus, something late 80's, bluebird with Chevy engine, probably. My friend has a nice one, all done up with a living space (very nice, hardwood floors, tile bathroom, granite countertops, etc). The bus has aux tanks for WVO, filtering systems, and an electromagnetic driveline retarder that is great for mountain travel. They chopped the bus right below the windows and lifted it a few feet for a regular ceiling height, then hung winch lowered bunk beds. Sweet ride. We took it to Burning Man this year, and we lived in serious WVO neo-hippy style. If I had a place to park one, I'd definately own one.

Just trying to ignore the news on TV at the moment. Imagining big diesels is the only comfort I have right now.

Driving over the passes in Cali our fully loaded veggie bus was passing gasoline busses and leaving semi trucks in the dust. It would hold a constant steady 60mph up and down every mountain pass, the driveline retarder doing a beautiful job of keeping downhill control. Runaway was never a concern.

When we arrived at the desert, we found a stranded winnebago with a burned out alternator. Tied them to the tow hooks and towed their asses in on veggie power. In fact, once we were on open desert, we just pointed the bus in the right direction, and let it tow a full size winnebago at idle (now THAT is torque). We actually were able to get out of the bus and walk alongside it as it just idled along the open desert hauling hundreds of gallons of oil, water and supplies and towing a winnebago full of hippies. Amazing vehicle, considering that it began its life hauling little squirts around Colorado. Plus, when we got to our resting place, we used the solar system to charge the batteries on the winnie so it could make it back to reno on battery power.

That event actually sealed my faith in the diesel, and I'd love to own one of my own someday.

That big Cat looks amazing too. Most of my family (both of my natural grandfathers, my step grandfather, and four of my uncles) work or worked for Caterpillar, so I could probably get a good deal on a new one. I remember seeing a Caterpillar truck show when visiting them when I was a small child. They had some bulldozers about the size of that dump truck, tires bigger than cars, and the could put their shovels against the ground, get a quick boost from another dozer behind it, and lift themselves up on the shovel to do a handstand. It blew me away, it was like giant diesel acrobatics.

peace,
Sam

A Freightliner Sprinter. We have 2 of them here at school in our fleet that I drive regularly, a 2500SHC 158", and a 3500SHC Dually 158" with a 4.10 rear end in it. I drove the 3500 tonight, and can still hear the engine snarling in my ears.
If I were to hit the lottery right now, I would be at the Freightliner dealer ordering a 118" wheelbase Passenger 2500HC, with every option available... and then getting a MB conversion kit for it. What more classy of a way to tow my jetski than that?
