I've heard of the dash caps and have seen a few installed. Of those, some you could hardly tell is was a cap, others were down right ugly. As in anything, I guess, it depends on the quality of the kit and care taken on the install.

However, I think Benzzy and I were trying to find out if anyone had used any kind of vinyl repair kit and that they were satisfied with the results.

My thinking is that a dash cap is a little extreme for 1-2 small cracks.

Has anyone seen a pro work his magic on something like this and know what he uses? Or has anyone felt like their repair was as good as any pro?

I have lots of cracks in my 230's dash and I'm looking to replace it unless I find some alternative that would repair it to a point I would be happy with it. My cracks run from the front edge of the dash to the back. They're about as bad as they get. I'm just surprised that such a high standard automobile has such poor quality interior components.

I don't think it was poor quality at the time most of our cars were built. It was just the only material available then.

My stereo doesn't sound great compared to todays, but it was the best they had at the time.

Just my opinion.

Cheers,

Bill

Get a tube of Silicone Rubber, at your local hardware store, that matches the color of your dash as closely as possible. Put a little in the crack and smooth it out with a wet finger. If the color is close enough, the crack will become invisible. Silicone rubber remains flexible and will expand and contract with the dash
Phil, What are the results of this application on your dash? How long ago did you do this?
