Heed Advice of the Experienced - Fuses
 

Over the past couple of weeks my '87 300TD has had a quirky acting front wiper. It would randomly stop in whatever position and start again when it wanted to. Searched the forum and read about taking the cover off to clean & lube the drive components. Since it hasn't rained but periodically, it was on the deep back burner. Yesterday, the rain was really coming down and it stopped. Unlike previous times, it did not start up again. Went to the easiest place to start (remembering what so many have said about those foolish fuses). Spun the fuse the slightest amount and the wiper started and has been great since.

Replace those ole fuses with the newer ones. Don't be a fool like me and only think about it. :) :o

Hope you got the copper ones, not the aluminum. If you got the aluminum ones they will corrode when in contact with the copper fuse holder, and need replaced with the copper fuzes.

Roy had mentioned that he had found glass replacement fuses with pointed ends. Could have been at Napa?

Yes, Napa carries the glass tube fuses. You may have to ask for them though.

They also have oil filters, fuel filters, wheel bearings, wheel bearing seals, brake pads, and God only knows what else. :D

Don't forget the fuse holders
 

It's a good idea to clean the copper fuse holders too. Some people also use a dab of dielectric grease after the cleaning.

Instead of grease I use a product called "Boshields T-9", available at pretty much any marine store. No oily residue to attract dirt.

Boshields was developed by Boeing to spray on their electrical components on aircraft. Once airborn everything sweats and will corrode.

Boshields is great to spray in the snouts of your sunroof drain pan. It will totally stop the rust and does last quite a while. take a new piece of metal and spray half of it leaving the other half dry. Leave it out in the weather and you'll be amazed at how long the Boshields protective qualities will last.

BTW-I have no affiliation with the Boshields company or Boeing. I'm a boater that has used this product in marine applications with great results.
