fuel leak after glow plug service

I just had the local dealer do a complete glowplug service on my 97 E300 and now there is a puddle of diesel fuel in my garage under the motor. Does anyone have any idea how the glow plug service might have caused a fuel leak? Thanks

Mechanic is a moron and banged a tool into one of the fuel lines. Or, they did it when the pulled the manifold.

thanks for the reply. I just noticed that the car is also releasing lots of suity fuel out of the exhaust, which it did not do before. What a shame. I paid good money for this service, and I really love these cars. (I have a 96 also.)

The frustration of going through exactly what you are going through is why most of us will not go to any dealer for service.

Of course, this is easier said than done when you have '95 model year (or newer) vehicle.

These two may see my favorite indy in North Carolina every couple of years because I get a little tired of laying on my back, but, everything in the engine compartment, the instrument panel, and the front end is repaired by yours truly.

And I never have to feel like the dealer stole my money and let a chimpanzee work on my vehicle.

I used to go to a great mechanic in Costa Mesa, CA called Mercedes repair by Maurice, but I recently moved to NH. I went to the dealer instead of looking for a mechanic and that was a mistake. Not to mention, they also messed up my '96 this week in another service attempt. It took me years to find these cars in superior shape, and just days at a dealer to mess them up.

One of our members, BrierS (Steve) lives in Charlestown, NH. Are you anywhere near him?

I'll suggest that you let the engine idle, and check for leaks around the fuel injectors, such as leaking/loose/disconnected fuel return line (braided hose on older models, don't know the W210 body) as a possibility.

They could have knocked a return line loose while r/r the intake manifod and/or wrestling with the glow plugs.

I had deteriorated line on my OM603, it smelled a lot like a diesel refueling station, and I saw wet injectors. Replaced the old hose with new, no leaks, no smell, no sweat.

Best Regards,
Jim

It was in fact a fuel return line on the 97. They refuse to fix it. I am not going back there, ever, and this is not over. They wanted me to pay to fix that AND LEAVE IT ALL DAY "IN CASE SOMETHING ELSE BREAKS." I told them I park the car in a clean garage every day, and only after the service went from spotless to a puddle of diesel there. I had to leave the car outside. I estimate I have lost 2 or so gallons of fuel.

(They also did a number on my electrical system on my '96 the same week.)

So much for NH Mercedes dealers. (they are all the same company)

I found Hatch and Sons in Wayland MA, I dont mind driving 90 miles for competent service.

I wonder how much they would charge. Maybe these new ones are different (?), but I know on mine, replacing one of those return lines is literally a one-minute job with a $3 part.
