240D - Brighter Tail/Brake Lights...?

I'd like brighter tail/brake lights on my '82 240D.

There's a "5 brake light mod" that can be done on the VW TDI's. Anything similar that can be done for our MB's...?

Thanks,

- Patrick

You can but LED replacement bulbs that fit into standard sockets.

You can't really put much higher wattage taillight bulbs in there without taking a chance on melting the plastic. Somebody posted a modification a while back where he put additional sockets in some unused spots. As I recall, it looked pretty good.

I have found that using the led bulbs in our taillights (w126) actually produce less light than standard bulbs. This is because if you look at the brake light reflector it is facing the back of the car and regular bulb produces light from 180 degrees, so light hits the reflector and bounces back. With standard led bulbs though, light just goes up, so very little light actually bounces off the reflectors. Installing hyper white bulbs in your housing should produce brighter, brake/taillights, provided the bulbs you use are made with colored glass and not just painted.

Yeah do a search for the 4 brake light mod. It produces great results (lots of nice solid red light out of the back)
Makes your car look like a bimmer when it brakes though
I like dim tail lights...atleast the styling of them..
makes it look like a true german car.
