1993 300D, window mechanism problem
 

Hi, I have a problem with the driver's window mechanism on a 1993 300D. With the window completely up, if I push the "up" bottom, the motor makes a trrrrr sound, like the teeth are worn or something. If I push "down", the window moves down a couple of inches and then it stops with the trrrrr sound. If I help it down with my hand, it goes down all the way, with stages where the motor seems to work fine followed by trrrrr.

- First of all, can anybody diagnose the problem with the information that I just gave you?

- Second, assuming that the problem is something worn out in the motor/controller/whatever unit, how do I get it out??? I see five nuts that seem to fasten the window linkage to the door, but I can't see how the motor is attached.

OK, I got the motor out. I separated it from the gearbox and the plastic gear inside the gearbox has an area where the teeth are totally worn out.

Is there any kind of scientific method for putting all that linkage back together? Thanks.

I think you need a new one of these.

Do you have an new window regulator?

My '94 E320 is making the same sound. It goes up and down OK---just kind of slow, but when it gets all of the way down it makes a continuous clicking sound like the gear is worn out. In my case it doesn't stop until you press the "up" button again.

Let me know how this works for you and if you find any other issues.
