Sady inspired me, now I need help

My 80 300D has sat for 1 yr. I too paid $300.00. after following sady's post, I got it running and tagged.

Have a definite driveline(?) vibration. Will look at that later on a rack.

My problem is my fuse holder #4 and #6(wipers) has no juice. Where does this feed from? Can I run a fused jumper wire so I can have wipers?

Thanks,
Dave

I had a severe problem with vibration on a 1980 240D.
It started shaking really bad, felt like it was going to rip the car apart at freeway speeds.

I took it into Metric Motors in Reno late on a Friday afternoon. They were not sure what the problem was. The mech suggested the driveshaft mount, and thought the rear end had a lot of play.

I limped it home, about 500 miles, at about 40 mph, but never did find out what caused the problem. I replaced the driveshaft mount, the flex links, and since the boots were cracked, the half shafts as well.

The "rear end play" was probably wear in the half shafts. The rear end felt tight after changing them. I suspected the problem was probably a cumulative effect of a bunch of little stuff.

Run a fused jumper wire for the wipers, this is a safety device issue, without them, the car is unsafe to drive in the rain or heavy fog, diagnosis can come later.

Where is the vibration, steering wheel, feet, butt or back?
If it sounds like the transmission/drive shaft tunnel, the flex disk may be bad, that needs to be checked NOW.
There are reports on this forum of $1,200+ in damage from a flex disk that died at speed.

Look for rope, twine or plastic road junk wrapped around the shaft or axle, rare these days, but it does still happen.

Have your tires been balanced since you put it back on the road?

Be sure to keep the inside of wheel rim clean.
Not long ago, a W123 came in with a terrible vibration at highway speed, the owner (19 year old) had brake dust covers on all wheels, when the wheels where removed, all wheels where found to be packed with mud from off road driving, snow pack will do the same.

Wow!! Simple fixes, maybe

Yeah, I'm just going to the car wash at 30 mph. Dirt, tires, will check all that my self.
Thanks so much,
Dave
