Cooling System Too Good?

Now that temperatures are below freezing here in the North Country, my 300D never warms up! Drove it 80 miles last night, and the temperature guage barely got off the peg- stayed below 100. Normally in warmer weather, it runs just under 175. I plan to store the car for the winter, beginning first week in December, so that leaves me with a few weeks of cold driving. Does anybody have an "elegant" way of creating a radiator blind? I was thinking of simply duct-taping a piece of cardboard behind the grille (a truly "Canadian" solution to everything!), but wondering if there might be a proper kit available for doing this? As creative as Red Green the duct tape king is, I would be afraid that cardboard might blow off.

Sounds like you might have a thermostat issue.............................

if you have a vehicle with A/C (not that you need it) you can slide some thin cardboard between the radiator and condensor.

I'd agree with 'DaboneheadDoctor', your Thermostat may be stuck in the open position, or perhaps your auxilliary fan is running all the time providing uneccessary cooling.

Temp guage reads whater temp in the block, the thermostat should open and close to maintain that temp. If its not the thermostat is sticking at least partially open and letting coolant run through the radiator unhindered, that the only thing that can have your car running that cold. Assuming sending unit and guage are properly functioning. In the summer this can make it over heat but in winter it lets the coolant get too cold.

Thermostats are cheap........running a motor too cold is real bad for it. Let us know what you find.
