Do you mean a 420 SEL? Heck, for $50, what have you got to lose?

Yep, a 420 SEL would be a 126. In fact, it's the LWB 126..so, if the body's in really good shape and you decided not to deal with the g@$$er, you could swap your OM617 in there...

I'd say buy the thing, what do you have to loose? You can double or tripple your money from just selling the tail lights

"SEL" should mean that it's fuel injected. The "E" would be missing on a carbureted engine.

What shape's the body and interior in? I'm starting to get ideas

If the car is rust free, then you would be sitting on a gold mine. It might be worth while looking into the engine and seeing what is wrong, it could be a simple fix, such as a bad o-ring...

If there's "spark but no fuel", it could be something as simple as a bad fuel pump. Put a new one on, and "woohoo!"....you'll have a running Mercedes for $50! If not, then you have a parts car to make money on eBay with! I don't see how you could lose, either way!

1984 420sel ??

There is some kind of disconnect here. The 420SEL model was not manufactured until 1986, or at the earliest summer 1985 in Germany. The 1984 model year came in a 280 (Europe and Asia), 380 and a 500 engine, and came in SE and SEL models, besides the famed 300SD. There was distinctly no 1984 420SEL. In 1986, the gas engine cars were upgraded to 300, 420 and 560, in both SE and SEL models.
